About the program

GambleAware North Sydney, Central Coast is a stepped, multimodal program that provides person centred and tailored support to individuals, families and significant others, who have been impacted by gambling harm. This is achieved through the delivery of:

  • face to face, phone and digital therapeutic and financial counselling
  • delivery of psycho-educational and gambling related group programs
  • awareness raising and early intervention activities/ events.

About the role

We are seeing an experienced and highly motivated leader to join our dynamic GambleAware services. This exciting role will be responsible for:

  • driving high quality and consistent practice within GambleAware service, in line with industry best practice standards, Wesley Mission policy and procedure and contractual obligations
  • lead a team of Therapeutic Counsellors, Peers Support Worker and Community Linkers to provide professional and collaborative support to those most in need and at risk within our community
  • ensure the ongoing professional development of the team
  • ensure a high level individual professional support and guidance to all direct reports
  • support , plan and contribute to delivering events, activities and projects across North Sydney and Central Coast
  • champion the continual improvement of Wesley Mission GambleAware services
  • provide assertive outreach within local communities to build awareness of the risks associated with gambling
  • increase community capacity and create soft entry pathways for individuals seeking further support through GambleAware.

Essential criteria

  • proven team leadership skills including experience in supervision of staff, performance management and team development
  • experience in leading high performing and engaged teams
  • high level written and verbal communication skills
  • ability to work effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (ATSI) and Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) organisations and communities
  • experience and/or competency in delivering community education and targeted group programs
  • experience in delivering community awareness campaigns and events
  • understanding of strength-based practices
  • high level ability to liaise, develop and maintain relationships with professional groups including government and non-government stakeholders
  • proven ability to work with at risk and vulnerable communities
  • demonstrated knowledge of the impact of trauma and addictive behaviours
  • an interest in and/or knowledge of issues relating to problem gambling
  • proven organisational skills, ability to prioritise workloads and meet deadlines and achieve KPI’s
  • current NSW driver’s license
  • Working with Children’s Check (this is a requirement prior to commencement of employment)
  • satisfactory police check.

Desirable criteria

  • relevant tertiary qualification(s) in Counselling or Psychology and relevant industry experience. Diploma level qualifications can be considered where applicant has more than three years industry experience.
