Established by Wesley Mission in 1963, Lifeline Sydney & Sutherland is one of 41 proud members of the Lifeline Australia network.

Lifeline is Australia’s largest national phone support service, answering over a million calls annually. We support more than 30,000 people each year through our 13 11 14 crisis support service.

Role overview

This office-based position leads the Lifeline Sydney & Sutherland training team. Lifeline Australia is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO 88036). It contracts Lifeline Sydney & Sutherland to provide accredited CHCSS00113 – Crisis Support Skill Set Training, which includes a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment of 3 Units of Competency. Lifeline Sydney & Sutherland provides fee-for-service training and professional development for volunteers and staff.

This role coordinates and manages the systems and requirements around RTO training records, ensures trainers are accredited, maintains accreditation tracking for existing volunteers, supports recruiting and assessing new potential volunteers, leads a small team of trainers and volunteer mentors, grows commercial training opportunities, and delivers training packages.

Key responsibilities

  • maintain RTO Accreditation to meet Lifeline Australia’s contractual requirements
  • identify, source, and engage commercial training opportunities
  • coordinate CSWT training for Lifeline Sydney & Sutherland
  • engage with and support Volunteers to increase Lifeline Sydney and Sutherland’s service impact
  • support and supervise staff, events, activities and projects across the Sydney and Sutherland region.

Essential criteria

  • hold TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment qualification that meets the ASQA RTO standards for training and assessing
  • experience administering an RTO to maintain compliance
  • experience working in a welfare/mental health setting
  • effective time management and organisational skills with the ability to think laterally and work under pressure to achieve work deadlines in an environment with competing priorities whilst maintaining a high attention to detail
  • consistent initiative, discretion, judgement, and tact of a high level, as well as the ability to maintain confidentiality in dealing with issues of a sensitive or personal nature
  • strong interpersonal communication and negotiation skills, both written and verbal, including the ability to develop and maintain sound working relationships with a range of stakeholders
  • proficient office management skills, including the ability to analyse issues, establish a course of action and adopt a proactive attitude with appropriate direction
  • ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision and cooperatively with others as required to support the achievement of individual and team goals.
  • proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, Power BI, and CRM systems
  • current WWCC
  • satisfactory National Criminal History Check
  • current, unrestricted license and a willingness to drive between sites as required.

Desirable skills/knowledge

  • a passionate attitude to adult training and education
  • willingness to complete additional training, including relevant Lifeline Australia and trainer/assessor qualifications
  • experience as a Lifeline Crisis Support worker
  • experience introducing new systems/solutions to people
  • experience supporting a team of volunteers
  • an interest in systems and developing processes to improve outcomes.
