About the program and role

We are looking for experienced, committed youth workers, who are responsible for developing, assisting and supporting young people in a strength based, therapeutic model of care to provide growth and safety until they become adults.

The program has a strong focus on facilitating and supporting the young people, their families and key stakeholders, to recover from trauma with a multi-disciplinary team-based approach through individualised, person-centred care.

Key responsibilities:

• Provide individualised high-quality supports which promote clients’ health along with their physical, emotional, social and behavioural needs and goals
• To facilitate the participation and inclusion of young people in the community
• To act as a mentor to young people and engage positive change and discourage challenging behaviours
• Support clients in their day to day lives according to their individual care plans
• With 24 hour care we need people who can work all shifts including active nights and holidays
• Year round rosters require availability at all times of the year
• An understanding of reflective practice in the trauma based environment

Essential criteria

• Certificate IV/Diploma in Youth Work or Community Services
• previous experience working with children and young people with trauma based disabilities.
• Australian Citizens/Permanent Residents willing to work flexible hours including shift-work, weekends and sleep-overs
• Demonstrated experience working effectively within a team
• Experience and understanding of WH&S issues in the workplace
• Outstanding interpersonal skills; flexible and patient with the ability to relate well within a team
• Written and verbal communication skills within a Mandatory Reporting framework
• Intermediate computer skills
• Current unrestricted NSW Driver’s Licence (must have as a minimum P2 licence to drive a Wesley Mission vehicle)
• Current First Aid Certificate
• Current Working with Children Check, NDIS Worker Check and a satisfactory Criminal History Record Check (please note this role will require employees to be registered under the Residential Care Workers Register).

Remuneration

Salary and employment conditions are in accordance with the SCHADS Award Level 3.
