About the role

Woollahra Council has an exciting opportunity available for a qualified Tree Management Compliance Officer to undertake investigations and carry out regulatory action associated with unauthorised tree works around Woollahra Municipality.

About you

As the Tree Management Compliance Officer you will ensure the provisions and controls of relevant environmental planning, tree and vegetation legislation for which Council is responsible are affectively applied.

Reporting directly to the Manager, Open Space & Trees you will develop and implement case specific investigation plans with regards to unauthorised tree and vegetation works, whilst maintaining Council's records in accordance with the Compliance requirements and timelines.

Essential Criteria

  • Relevant qualifications in Environmental Law, Environmental Management, Law Enforcement and/or Investigations or a related field.
  • Experienced in environmental law or law enforcement, including undertaking investigations using the full powers invested in the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act & Local Government Act
  • Experience in providing evidence in the Local and Land & Environment Court
  • Excellent communication and conflict resolution skills.
  • Extensive experience in interpreting and applying relevant legislation.
  • Ability to work with a diverse range of internal and external parties.
  • Demonstrated project management skills.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience with investigations involving breaches of tree and vegetation consents and permits.
  • Experience and knowledge in a local government and political setting.
