This position is based in Launceston but requires travel across the North and North West of Tasmania.
Key duties in this role include:
- Supporting schools to create safe and inclusive cultures and learning environments for young people negotiating issues of sexuality, gender identity and bodily difference.
- Liaising with LGBTIQA+ young people, their parents, principals, support staff and others as necessary to articulate and embed systems and processes that cater to their specific needs.
- Developing, organising and delivering professional learning on LGBTIQA+ inclusion in schools.
- Support schools with the development and running of Pride Groups.
- Design and deliver capacity building resources and activities to and for the Department for Education, Children and Young People (DECYP) staff.
- Advise on curriculum resources and other materials to support LGBTIQA+ inclusion in schools.
We are looking for someone who, amongst other things:
- A recognised degree in education, community development, counselling or similar field, or a related field, or equivalent qualifications and experience.
- A commitment to cultural change as the primary mechanism for creating safe and inclusive learning environments for LGBTIQA+ young people.
- Demonstrated understanding of the lived experience of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, asexual and queer young people, including the specific issues faced within school environments.
- Previous experience in building relationships with young people and their families in sensitive areas.
- Knowledge, skills and experience in delivering professional learning.
