Field Operations Manager

The Field Operations Manager focuses on leading and managing field operations to attract, retain, and develop top talent, ensuring the successful implementation of projects and regional plans within our Australia First Nations context. Reporting to the Head of Australia Program & Australia First Nations, you will drive organisational culture initiatives, maintaining compliance with policies and procedures, and fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment.

You will lead and support a strong and high performing project implementation team, enabling a culture of collaboration and passion for First Nations people leading their own development and communicating the impact of community-led development over the long term.

This role requires travel to remote community locations. 

This role plays an integral part in the organisation, enabling us to support our mission of empowering Australians to create meaningful change for the world’s most vulnerable children and adults.

Your main duties and responsibilities:

  • People Leadership, Recruitment and Retention - Apply effective and consistent workplace practices and behaviours to attract, retain and strengthen top talent. Drive organisational culture initiatives to enhance employee engagement and foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment.
  • Ensure the successful implementation and delivery of Australia First Nations Program (AFNP) projects and Regional plans - Provide leadership, support and coordination to ensure project implementation is efficient and effective and meets the goals and objectives of World Vision Australia (WVA), Australia First Nations Program (AFNP) and community partners.
  • Provide strategic operational leadership to Australia First Nations Program Field Teams. Collaborating with AFNP Operations Manager, embed a culture of continuous improvement projects to ensure systems are fit for purpose for field teams. Ensure that WVA guidelines, procedures and policies are followed by staff. Ensure operational activities and processes are in compliance with all relevant WV policies, procedures and donor requirements, and are meeting high standards of project management.

We are looking for someone who is a great leader and team player, with excellent interpersonal skills.

Your skills and experience will include:

  • Excellent understanding of the cultural, political, economic and social nature of working with First Nations organisations and communities.
  • Experience as a senior leader of a field facing program team
  • Significant experience directly managing complex field teams in remote locations
  • Demonstrated experience of achieving practical results working with First Nations people, families, organisations and communities 
  • Experience at a high level working with government and non-government donors and supporters
  • Understanding of program management, grant management, including budgets
  • Advanced people leadership skills with the ability to lead teams in a collaborative and inclusive manner
  • Advanced degree in Community Development, Social Work or a related or complementary discipline
