Mental Health and Wellbeing Services

Mental health and wellbeing services are at the core of WWG’s primary health care service. WWG delivers a range of services and programs across the spectrum of mental health from low intensity, mild to moderate psychological therapies and psycho-social support for those with complex mental health issues. This position is integral to how WWG delivers quality, culturally responsive mental health care and provides a unique opportunity to be at the forefront of the development of multicultural community based primary mental health and wellbeing services in Australia.

Position Objective and Scope

This is a highly collaborative senior leadership role responsible for providing management, clinical leadership, and be a point of escalation on mental health clinical matters across the organisation. The role maintains accountability for mental health clinical governance and continuous improvement across clinical activities and processes, and further development of clinical excellence and culturally responsive multicultural mental health services.

The position will foster an open and inclusive culture to support teamwork, staff clinical capability, and opportunities for innovation and impact. The position will lead clinical mental health related activity across the organisation focused on clinical practice performance and improvement, identify trends and emerging issues, and build on WWG’s recognised expertise in multicultural mental health by continuing to develop specialist multicultural mental health knowledge and expertise.

Organisational Relationships and Accountability

This position works in close collaboration with WWG’s senior leadership group, a supportive, inclusive and values focused team, and will work most closely with the Mental Health and Wellbeing Operations Manager and the Integration and Practice Leader.

  • Internal liaison: Program managers, all personnel and health practitioners

  • External Liaison: Clients and their families/carers, mental health clinicians and support workers and external agencies and services, government, NGO and private health and mental health, social and community services & funding bodies.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

This role is responsible for the following key areas and functions:

1. Clinical Leadership and Management

  • Develop and implement clinical and therapeutic initiatives grounded in cross cultural and trauma informed practice frameworks, tailored to the individuals needs of our multicultural clients.
  • Lead and supervise an interdisciplinary team of practitioners, providing professional development and support, fostering a culture of excellence in cross cultural and trauma informed care.
  • Lead the clinical practice requirements across WWG’s mental health programs including compliance with professional and accreditation standards.
  • Oversee risk management and safety planning of clients accessing clinical services.
  • Maintain service data integrity for performance monitoring, reporting and impact evaluation.
  • Take an active role in intake and triage processes, holistic clinical assessments and provide clinical advice when required.
  • Oversee the performance of clinical services delivery, ensuring support and supervision, advice, and mentoring.
  • Maintain accountability for continuous quality improvement across clinical activity and processes and ensure clinical governance frameworks are current and appropriate.
  • Work at an advanced level of autonomous clinical and professional specialist mental health practice
  • Support the team in the provision of safe and quality mental health care through exemplary standards.
  • Apply professional and clinical expertise in collaboration with multi-disciplinary stakeholders.
  • Remain up to date with current evidence-based practice trends in relation to multicultural mental health.

2. Workforce management and development

  • Actively progress the growth and development of the specialist clinical mental health workforce in line with service agreements, policy directions and client need and demand.
  • Facilitate a culture of learning and collaboration with identifying and promoting access to relevant training and education opportunities, mentoring and clinical and cultural supervision.
  • Support clinical staff in day-to-day clinical service delivery, including staff working off- site at multiple locations.
  • Contribute to the vision, strategic planning and relevant policy development for World Wellness Group Ltd and actively participate as a senior member of the management team.

3. Sector liaison and collaboration

  • Develop and maintain networks and professional relationships, particularly with MHAOD services, to strengthen referral pathways, build WWG’s reputation and foster collaborations to build and strengthen multicultural mental health clinical services.
  • Build and maintain strong working and strategic relationships with key stakeholders in the mental health, alcohol and other drugs sectors including lived experience/ consumer & carer movement/networks.
  • Contribute to relevant projects and engagement activities.
  • Represent WWG at relevant meetings, forums and consultations.

KEY CAPABILITIES

We are looking for an experienced mental health practitioner who is:

  • Able to demonstrate application of evidence-based clinical practice and critical thinking to deliver therapeutic, culture-based, recovery oriented individualised person centred and trauma informed care to people from CALD backgrounds with complex mental health issues.
  • Able to assess mental health risk and protective factors in the context of multicultural mental health experiences for people from CALD backgrounds.
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of mental health and other drug and social care systems and structures across Queensland, specifically in relation migrants, refugees and people seeking asylum.
  • Able to provide clinical care and support to clients in a culturally sensitive way with an understanding of acculturation, trauma and psychological stressors arising out migration and acculturation, the covid-19 pandemic and other social circumstances.
  • Able to lead, participate and contribute to interdisciplinary team processes.
  • Able to utilise high-level oral and written communications skills, including the ability to support the team to write and review case notes, care plans, record service delivery through case notes, complete reports and any other necessary documents.
  • Able to contribute to the development of service planning, service delivery and service evaluation, within the frameworks established by WWG.
  • Able to carry out any other relevant duties as directed by the Leadership Team.

  • Treat clients/stakeholders with respect and dignity
  • Comply with the World Wellness Group’s Code of Conduct, as well as any Code of Conduct of your professional association.
  • Comply with confidentiality requirements of World Wellness Group, as well as the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) regarding client information, taking particular care that the information of clients may be highly sensitive in nature.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

a. Essential

  • A genuine interest and commitment to WWG’s vision, mission, and values.
  • Registered/accredited mental health practitioner.
  • Proven experience in clinical leadership (minimum 3-5 years) providing clinical supervision and support within an interdisciplinary team, ensuring effective clinivsl service delivery and team development.  
  • Proven experience in multicultural mental health and trauma informed practice frameworks and an understanding of the challenges faced by multicultural communities in accessing mental health services.  
  • Advanced level understanding of mental health diagnosis, treatment modalities and recovery-oriented practices. 
  • Highly developed communication, including cross cultural, and consultation skills and ability to deliver presentations and manage challenging interpersonal dynamics/situations.
  • Proven ability to manage integrated professional clinical practice including understanding of professional and ethical obligations and risk management.  
  • A strong commitment to ongoing learning and self-reflection, a critical understanding of race, privilege, and power in relation to multicultural health and mental health.  
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and availability to occasionally work outside standard business hours.

b. Desirable

  • Post graduate qualifications in mental health.
  • Proven leadership experience
  • Previous experience in a multicultural workplace/setting Fluency in a community language other than English
