WSCLC’s Central West Contact Service (CWCS) program provides a safe space for children from families experiencing conflict to spend time with the parent they are not currently living with.

The service also provides a safe place for children to go from one parent to another parent (changeover) while providing safety to both parents and children.The service operates in a context of significant family conflict and high emotions. Staff need to be calm and impartial.

CWCS are looking for casual staff to potentially work on Fridays (9am-7.30pm), Saturdays (8.30am – 5.30pm) and Sundays (8.30am – 2.30pm).

ABOUT THE ROLE

Location: Harris Park, NSW

Status: Casual

Remuneration: Social, Community, Home Care & Disability Services (SCHCADS) Industry Award 2010, Level 3.

As a Contact Supervisor, you will be working with vulnerable families who are currently involved in the Family Law proceedings. It is imperative that staff need to be calm, impartial, possess a high level of resilience, and seek to be part of a team of skilled and dedicated professionals.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervisors provide supervision assistance during contact and changeover visits for clients of Central West Contact Service. The Supervisor will need to maintain up to date knowledge on policies and procedures around these visits and maintain full confidentiality.

The successful candidate will need to be able to remain impartial and assist in facilitating these visits. This role requires supervisors to take notes of observations and produce an observational report at the end of the session. Supervisors are required to de-brief with their supervisor on a frequent basis and ensure that any issues are brought to the attention of the Senior Supervisor in charge on the day.

SELECTION CRITERIA

  • An understanding of reporting requirements and the laws governing NSW Child Protection Services.
  • An indepth understanding of domestic violence and the impact of this on all members of the family including children.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including capacity for empathy, compassion, and understanding.
  • Tertiary qualification relevant to working with children/young people and families, e.g. social sciences, psychology, welfare, youth work, child family related field is essential.
  • A minimum of 1 to 2 years’ experience working with children/young people is required.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Experience in working with families in high conflict.
  • Understanding of child development and issues.
  • Excellent communication skills and demonstrated ability to communicate in a supportive authoritative manner when required.
  • Demonstrated ability to self-manage emotions in difficult circumstances.
  • Experience in writing observational notes in a concise, neutral and accurate manner.
  • Experience working with and an understanding of the needs of people of culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, Aboriginal People and /or Torres Strait Islanders, people with disabilities or other people who may face disadvantages in accessing services.
  • Understanding of the impact of mental health, drug and alcohol issues and parental alienations on families.
