Wunan delivers the Target 120 Program in Halls Creek. The role of the Target 120 program is work with young people and their families to address underlying issues that lead to offending. Target 120 is an across-government strategy to holistically support young people at risk of becoming repeat offenders to take a different trajectory that improves life outcomes.

Wunan is seeking a Community Youth Support Worker, based in Halls Creek WA. This role works closely with the young people and their families who are part of the Target 120 program to provide support services for Target 120 clients in accordance with their support plans. This may include taking young people out on activities like camping, fishing, sports or arts activities, or working with families to reach their goals related to housing, health, education or finances.

Key Duties

The Community Youth Support Worker position will work closely with the young people and families involved in Target 120 and will report up to the Community Youth Officer (CYO). Key duties for the role are to:

  • Support with the client intake, support planning and service provision for young people and their families in Target 120
  • Engage and support Target 120 clients and families by addressing the “areas of need”
  • Refer and register clients or family members to services available in the community
  • Ensure clients and families are attending and engaging in services, including but not limited to school attendance, mental health appointments, rehab services, social services, employment opportunities, sports clubs, training courses and workshops
  • Convening and maintaining relevant local governance groups, and reporting to the Target 120 project team
  • Establish and maintain a meaningful association with the clients and families and provide support where needed.

Requirements of the role

  1. Good communication and relationship building skills with different stakeholders, including the ability to build trust with young people and their families.
  2. Experience in working effectively in culturally appropriate ways with Aboriginal people and people from culturally diverse backgrounds and a demonstrated understanding of past and current issues affecting these communities.
  3. Commitment to the principles of social justice and to work towards the vision of Wunan Foundation.
  4. Ability to perform basic data capture and reporting functions in alignment with the program needs.

Essential Criteria

  1. Appointment is subject to a satisfactory National Police Clearance.
  2. Appointment is subject to a satisfactory Working with Children (WWC) Check.
  3. Possession of a current Western Australian 'C' or 'C-A' Class Driver’s Licence or equivalent, and the ability to travel in response to organisational needs. This requirement continues for the duration of employment in this position and from time to time production of the licence may be required upon request by the employer.

Desirable criteria

  1. Service delivery experience in a human service, justice, child protection or mental health setting and an understanding of the issues around working collaboratively with agencies to build and develop interagency networks.
  2. Experience with data capture and reporting, particularly relating to program reporting.

Pre-employment requirements

  • Satisfactory Criminal History Check (not older than 6 months)
  • Current Working with children clearance
  • Current Australian unrestricted ‘C’ class Driver’s license
