Wunan Foundation is a leading Aboriginal development organisation based in the Kimberley region of Western Australia. Its purpose is to ensure that Aboriginal people enjoy the capabilities and opportunities necessary to make positive choices that lead to independent, fulfilling lives.
To achieve this, Wunan has developed five strategic priority areas: Leadership, Education, Employment, Housing and Health, with this role focused on Education, Housing and Employment programs.
The overall purpose of this role is to support Wunan’s core mission by providing strong management and strategic development of Wunan’s existing and emerging hostel accommodation program located in Kununurra WA 6743.
The successful applicant will provide strong organisation management of Wunan’s existing and future accommodation programs and ensure delivery of KPI’s. Wunan is seeking a Hostel Manager, to take ownership of developing and implementing a business plan and accountability measures to manage quality service provision.
Key Duties / Requirements of the role
- Provides strong organisation management oversight of Wunan’s hostel accommodation in Kununurra and ensures delivery of program KPIs
- Establishment, implementation and management of Policies and Procedures relating to management of the Hostel
- Effectively manages risks to Wunan’s hostel accommodation in Kununurra, including reporting significant risks to management
- Proactively identifies strategies for growth within Wunan’s accommodation programs through developing additional service offerings, marketing (in conjunction with Marketing and Communications) and other strategies to increase Wunan’s ability to achieve its objectives
- Develops and implements a Business Plan and accountability measures for all new and existing accommodation programs in line with Wunan’s objectives
- Displays strong leadership and create a culture of enterprise, innovation and ongoing staff development
- Works collaboratively to identify opportunities to promote and market Wunan programs to relevant stakeholders and communities
Essential Criteria
- A degree or an appropriate tertiary qualification in Business, Business Management, Community Services and/or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
- Previous work experience engaging with Aboriginal communities
- Previous work experience in the community and social services
- Intermediate to Advanced Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook)
- Excellent communication skills – written, verbal and presentation – and an ability to communicate in a culturally appropriate manner
- Organised and able to meet deadlines
- Ability to supervise staff and delegate tasks appropriately
- Proactive problem solver
- High-level interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to negotiate effectively, mediate and resolve conflict
- Ability to work in a team and also autonomously when required.

Desirable criteria
- Indigenous Australian
- A strong understanding of Indigenous people in general, and of Indigenous people and communities in the East Kimberley in particular
Pre-employment requirements
- Satisfactory Criminal History Check (not older than 6 months)
- Current Working with children clearance
- Current Australian unrestricted ‘C’ class Driver’s license
