The Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation (WWCHAC) is a Registered Aboriginal Party (RAP) appointed under the Aboriginal Heritage Act 2006 (Vic.).

We represent the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Traditional Owners of Melbourne and the Greater Melbourne region, and we take great pride in our responsibility for protecting and managing Aboriginal cultural heritage objects and places on Wurundjeri Country.

The Corporation offers a range of cultural services including environmental land management, cross-cultural education, traditional Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremonies, research, and cultural consultations.

Purpose

WWCHAC is focused on achieving Wurundjeri water rights and justice, community directed decision-making and restoring and managing healthy water on Country. The Water Program is WWCHAC’s dedicated team responsible for leading work related to water planning, management and governance. The Water Program is situated in the Narrap Unit – the broader Country management unit – and works closely with the Ranger Program and other unit staff.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage water related projects
• Contribute to the development of internal or external policies, strategies and plans related to water
• Contribute to legislation, policy, and regulation reviews for water related issues
• Source, document and summarise technical information to be considered by Elders, Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung community and staff
• Liaise with government bodies, water corporations, local councils and research institutions
• At the direction of your manager, represent the Water Program in meetings and project activities

About you

• High-level communication, written and customer service skills
• Demonstrated ability to advocate for the advancement and self-determination of Traditional Owner communities
• Knowledge and appreciation of Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung culture, history and connection to waterways
• Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field, such as: natural resource management, environmental science, environmental or public policy, environmental law, anthropology, archaeology or a related discipline is advantageous but not required.
