Key accountabilities (please refer to PD for full list)

  • Finalise the design and manage the implementation of the Forests of Eastern Australia program.
  • Work hand-in-hand with WWF-Australia's Science and Evaluation team on monitoring, impact assessment and adaptive management. Lead on regular reporting to WWF-US and other key stakeholders.
  • Support the technical delivery teams, with a particular focus on policy analysis, advocacy and partnerships to end deforestation and industrial native forest logging.
  • Co-create rich conservation content to engage WWF audiences and mobilise support for program objectives, in close collaboration with WWF-Australia's Marketing and Engagement team.
  • Establish and implement a program management and governance structure, including key internal and external stakeholders, to ensure efficient, consultative and science-based decision-making.
  • Establish and maintain ongoing engagement with WWF's global network - including the Forest Practice and Forests Forward program - to ensure alignment with existing and emerging positions related to forests and forest management, as well as to leverage global trends and initiatives to drive outcomes in Australia.

About the role

The position is an integral part of the Landscape Restoration and Protection team, supporting the delivery of WWF-Australia's ambitious Towards Two Billion Trees signature program. Specifically, the position will lead the implementation of a major new partnership with WWF-US, centred on the Forests of Eastern Australia as part of a global portfolio of priority landscapes to halt deforestation, improve forest management and restore degraded forests. The position will work closely with WWF-Australia's Trees, Species, Food, Social Development, Science, Communications and Revenue teams to design, implement, monitor and evaluate a range of policy, market and on-ground interventions. The position will work closely with WWF-US and other stakeholders to develop, test and refine 'high bar metrics' for Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) to climate change, and will leverage the Forests of Eastern Australia program to attract greater public and private sector investment into forest conservation, restoration and sustainable management.

Skills, knowledge and experience

  • Proven track record in the management of complex, multi-partner conservation and/or development programs, including collaborative design, budgeting, monitoring and risk management.
  • Demonstrated high level experience in program monitoring, evaluation, reporting and learning.
  • Proven track record in the design and delivery of effective public-facing campaigns - preferably environmental.
  • Demonstrated high level experience in multi-stakeholder engagement, consultation and partnership development, including contract negotiation.
  • Relevant networks across government, industry and community.
  • Understanding of the direct and underlying drivers of forest and biodiversity loss in Australia.
  • Understanding of the environmental, social and economic issues affecting rural Australia.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communications skills, with an ability to communicate complex research findings and technical concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing fundraising proposals and delivering against income targets.
  • An ability to work constructively in a flexible team-based environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in workplace health & safety within a field work context.
