A bit about the role

Reporting to the Team Leader Street Surfer Bus, you will join a strong and exciting team of Youth Services staff to collaborate and engage with the growing population of younger communities. You will be running, developing and improving lots of exciting programs to engage, develop and empower the younger community.

This is an exciting new opportunity, and we are seeking multiple Youth Development Officers to join us in Wyndham to develop and facilitate mobile programming for our new state of the art mobile youth facility – the Wyndham Street Surfer Bus.

Did we mention this new bus is fitted with all the bells and whistles like WIFI, music and DJ equipment, gaming consoles, art equipment and five LCD screens as well as an outdoor LCD screen which can be used for gaming and movies?

You will be experienced in outreach activities and projects including, but not limited to leaderships groups, programs, events and services that encourage and support young people aged 12 to 25 who live, work, study or recreate in the City of Wyndham using a community engagement and youth participation approach.

The Street Surfer Bus will be on the road four to six days and nights a week, targeting geographically isolated areas of Wyndham to engage and connect young people to our service. In order to maintain our high-quality service delivery and engaging programs, you will be required to work across all days of the week, prioritising a rotating roster of evening/after-hours and weekends.

What you will deliver

  • Develop, facilitate and evaluate youth programs, events and activities for the Wyndham Street Surfer Bus
  • Work collaboratively with the team to engage and empower our young people from the community
  • Complete risk management assessments for programs, events and activities
  • Grow and develop partnerships with the greater community, relevant schools and stakeholders
  • Be adaptive and excited about the growth of youth services

What you will bring

  • Demonstrated experience working within adolescent development, group work, youth participation and community development frameworks
  • Demonstrated experience in the development, implementation, evaluation and reporting of programs and services
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and maintaining strategic partnerships and stakeholder relationships
  • Proven ability to successfully engage and communicate with a diverse range of young people of varying abilities and needs, their families and communities
  • Highly effective communication and teamwork skills, and computer literacy
  • Degree qualification in Youth Work, Community Development, Social Work or a related discipline and relevant experience in the generalist Youth Sector or lesser formal qualification and substantial relevant experience in the Youth Sector (essential requirement)
  • A current Working with Children Check
  • Availability to work on weekends and after-workhours is essential
