YHAC strives to improve the wellness and health of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in our communities within Ceduna and the surrounding areas. YHAC also operate a fully accredited 24-hour residential aged care facility.

Aboriginal Health Worker

A fantastic opportunity has become available for dedicated and compassionate Aboriginal Health Workers to join our YHAC team!

We are looking for multiple candidates to work both within the community and clinical environments.

As an Aboriginal Health Worker/Practitioner, you will be working closely with our multidisciplinary team to provide timely, culturally appropriate, and holistic primary health care to our clients.

Working Arrangements:

  • Permanent Full-Time hours 37.5 per week worked across 5 days
  • Hours of work may include some after-hours activities & travel
  • 6-month Probationary Period
  • Paid in accordance with CKAHSAC Employees Enterprise Agreement

Key Selection Criteria:

  • Qualified Certificate III in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care and/or
  • Certificate IV in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care Practice with AHPRA registration
  • Passionate about making a positive impact on the health and well-being of Aboriginal communities
  • Have a great attitude and strong work ethic
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with ability to build relationships with patients, families, and healthcare professionals
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills with the ability to manage competing tasks and priorities
  • Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and privacy
  • Current National Police Check, Working With Children Check, and DHS Aged Care Screening
  • Evidence of Covid-19 1st, 2nd & Booster Vaccinations

Key Responsibilities:

  • Providing culturally appropriate care and advocating for equitable healthcare services with both government and non-government agencies
  • Provide flexible support, guidance and advice to individuals, families and carer’s to assist address their social, emotional and physical needs
  • Under supervision, provide quality Primary Health Care to individuals, families and the community within own competency level and service protocols, in order to meet health outcomes.
  • Conduct opportunistic and scheduled health assessments
  • Maintain client records and statistical data in accordance with established YHAC procedures and program requirements, ensuring records are accurate and up to date
  • Participate in regular clinical meetings and assist with case management of at-risk patients and families.
