ORGANISATIONAL CONTEXT:

YANA (formerly Women’s Liberation Halfway House) is Australia’s longest-running independent feminist crisis accommodation service. Established in 1974 by activists of the women’s movement, YANA was the first refuge for women in Victoria.

For 50 years, we have been at the forefront of providing safe accommodation, advocacy, and support for victim-survivors of family violence, with a particular focus on those from communities with the least resources.

ROLE PURPOSE:

The Practice Leader leads a team of Specialist Family Violence Practitioners and Program Support Workers to deliver high quality service to women and children who have experienced or are experiencing family violence. This role primarily oversees and provides support to victim survivors residing in crisis accommodation, refuge and transitional accommodation

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:

In the practice lead role, you will play a pivotal part in developing and leading our client services. Working closely with the Afterhours Practice Lead and the Refuge Operations Manager, you will help shape and implement a co-case management model, supervise and mentor family violence practitioners and support workers, and drive continuous service improvement while holding a caseload.

  • Mentor and support Family Violence Practitioners and Support Workers, especially those on on-call shifts.
  • Lead the design and implementation of outreach and co-case management services.
  • Supervise staff through reflective practice and performance appraisals.
  • Provide expert risk assessments and safety planning in line with MARAM.
  • Build strong community partnerships and referral pathways.
  • Ensure best practice through data management, reporting, and continuous quality improvement.
  • Contribute to a culture of growth, learning, and collaboration.
  • Hold a caseload when required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

The successful candidate will need to have the following:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications such as Social Work, Social and Community Services or Psychology.
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in a leadership or management role.
  • Deep understanding of family violence dynamics and trauma-informed care.
  • Demonstrated skills in risk assessment, case management, and intersectional practice.
  • Experience working with diverse communities and a commitment to cultural safety.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Ability to inspire teams and drive positive workplace culture.
  • A current police check, covid vaccinated and working with children's check.
