Yinhawangka Aboriginal Corporation RNTBC (Yinhawangka) is the native title holder (Registered Native Title Body Corporate) for approximately 10,000 sq.km around Paraburdoo in North Western Australia, which is held in Trust for approximately 350 Yinhawangka people. Paraburdoo is a small mining town in the Pilbara. The organisation is experiencing significant change and, likely, growth and the position may also change, and will require flexibility. 

This important role assists the Yinhawangka Corporation and people protect and manage their native title and cultural heritage. Primarily, the role provides logistical and coordination support for heritage surveys. 

Reporting to Corporate Team Leader, your focus will be on co-ordinating Traditional Owners to undertake heritage surveys.

The key objectives of the role include to:

  • In accordance with policy and instructions from Team Leader Lands, contact Yinhawangka people and coordinate participation.
  • Book tests, accommodation and other logistical arrangements are necessary.
  • Manage survey projects including planning project timelines, scheduling resources, coordinating responsibilities and monitoring progress.
  • Maintain accurate records to enable prompt payment to survey participants and suppliers.
  • Produce cost estimates and quotes for mining company and other proponent clients to ensure all Yinhawangka’s costs are recovered promptly.

You will need project management experience and a high level of value and understanding of and respect for Aboriginal culture, tradition and lands.

If you also have:

  • Experience working with Aboriginal people
  • Excellent administrative skills, with ability to coordinate several activities. 
  • Demonstrated adaptability and flexibility to work within tight time schedules in a dynamic work environment.
  • High level of computer literacy and a sound working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite, and ability to acquire knowledge of Sharepoint and GIS.
  • High level interpersonal and written communication skills
  • Ability to build relationships with all levels of the organisation
  • Sound level of numeracy and demonstrated attention to detail
  • Ability to hold all relevant security clearances in accordance with Yinhawangka policies and procedures.
  • Understanding of Aboriginal Heritage Act 1972 or ability to acquire.
  • Anthropological or Archaeological experience (desirable)

Appointment to this position will be subject to a National Criminal History Record Check. Two reference checks will be required including one recent supervisor.
