Based at Deception Bay and working with the Family Support Services team, this role will work collaboratively with a range of community stakeholders to promote community connectedness and build supportive and safe child-friendly environments. The Communities for Children initiative is a federally funded, whole of community response aimed at enhancing the wellbeing of children aged 0-12 years in the Deception Bay community.

You will focus on the review and development of the next Community Strategic Plan and apply asset/place-based community development strategies to implement community initiatives.

Your role will include:

  • Undertake community needs assessments through facilitating and driving community consultation
  • Employ principles of co-design in the development of initiatives to empower local children and families
  • Oversee and facilitate the development of co-designed viable programs/ projects and assist the development (through partnerships) of project plans for new activities, programs and events
  • Design, develop and distribute the Child and Family Alliance newsletter
  • Implement evaluation methods for activities and programs and prepare reports

what we are looking for

You will take a project-based management approach to working collaboratively with a range of stakeholders and utilise co-designed community development activities. You will be able to engage children and community members in making connections that enhance skills, knowledge and experience.

You will bring:

  • passion, commitment and belief in young people
  • relevant bachelor qualifications in human services, community development, psychology or social work
  • demonstrated experience working with community, community groups, First Nations communities and Elders, and stakeholders supporting outcomes for children and families
  • knowledge and understanding of child and family programs and the diverse range of issues impacting on children, families and communities
  • excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to present publicly to organisational and community groups and facilitate meetings, workshops and community consultations
