Youthlaw is a state-wide specialist community legal centre for young people under 25. We are based in Carlton (Melbourne), with an office in Ballarat.

Since 2001 we have provided a limited public daily help line for young people.

We believe this is a vital service for a cohort that has high legal need but faces many barriers to accessing advice & assistance. The service provides early high-quality advice & problem solving by specialist youth lawyers.

With funding from the Department of Justice & Community Services (DJCS) in partnership with the Victorian Legal Services Board (VLSB) we are excited to offer a 12-month position to an experienced lawyer to develop the Helpline.

This position also offers additional duties in very busy weekly Friday fines clinic. This clinic assists young people with complex challenges like homelessness, mental illness and substance issues, to resolve their fines and prevent their further progression into the justice system. You will train, induct, supervise & mentor volunteer paralegals and law students to deliver this service.

This role would suit a lawyer with relevant legal experience in areas of law commonly affecting young people and who is interested in leading service and system development.
