Youth Support + Advocacy Service (YSAS) is one of Australia’s largest and most comprehensive, youth specific community service organisation that enables young people experiencing serious disadvantage to access the resources and support they require to lead healthy and fulfilling lives.

About the position

The Doctors in Secondary Schools program aims to provide equitable, accessible and professional primary health care services to young Victorians in secondary schools.

The program complements existing student wellbeing programs aimed at improving health literacy and encouraging preventive health. Its explicit objectives are to:

  • Make primary health care more accessible to students
  • Provide assistance to young people to identify and address any health problems early
  • Reduce the pressure on working parents and community-based GPs.

Some of your key responsibilities will be:

  • Provision of medical advice and primary health care for students in partnership with practice nurse
  • Keep accurate records of patient care using the headspace EMR and relative programs
  • Provision of comprehensive drug and alcohol assessment, sexual health and mental health assessment and treatment to disadvantaged and ‘at risk’ young people
  • Ensure compliance with any reporting or data collection requirements
  • Ensure compliance with departmental policies and procedures
  • Promote and maintain a safe wellbeing culture and working environment within your area
