Role – Under the general direction of the General Manager, the Communications & Marketing Officer develops, implements and monitors the communication and marketing activities of the Association. The Communications & Marketing Officer works as part of the ANUSA staff team and provides support to student representatives and staff in the marketing of ANUSA services, community initiatives including Semester 1 Orientation Week, Semester 2 Bush Week and advocacy campaigns.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

Operational:

  1. Graphic design, promotion and marketing for ANUSA programs, events and advocacy campaigns. It is expected that the position-holder will attend major ANUSA events.
  2. Using advanced graphic design skills, design, create and maintain online & print content, including ANUSA branded publications, merchandise & physical resources.
  3. Maintain & update the Association’s websites, including online store, ensuring security and WCAG accessibility requirements are met.
  4. Manage the Association’s membership database (MSL or any replacement system/s used by the Association) & mailing lists for communication directly to members, both general & targeted. Implement regular communication directly to members, including the weekly newsletter, regarding the Association’s advocacy, services, events & programs.
  5. Create the general election and other Association elections and referenda on the election software including liaison with relevant stakeholders. Assist General Manager with technical requirements of elections.
  6. Provide design advice and editorial comment to ANUSA elected representatives on the visual presentation and written content of publications.
  7. Assist with writing of press releases as required by the Association.
  8. Maintain records according to relevant ANUSA policies and prepare quarterly and annual reports on Communications portfolio engagement and activities.

Stakeholder Liaison:

  1. Represent ANUSA at ANU and external stakeholder meetings for communications portfolio related matters
  2. Ensure that ANUSA Executive has the opportunity to provide comment and feedback on design of ANUSA assets and resources
  3. Liaise with ANUSA staff including the Community Life Officer to ensure effective promotion and marketing of ANUSA events, particularly for major events such as Orientation and Bush Weeks

Strategic:

  1. Develop, manage and implement the ANUSA communications and marketing strategy, including the use of effective analytical tools to increase awareness of the Association’s services, events and advocacy and to adapt future content and strategy.
  2. Manage the Association’s communication channels, including website/s, social media and other online channels.
  3. Acquire and maintain knowledge of relevant stakeholders within ANU
  4. Contribute to and support project management activities that implement strategic directions and quality improvement recommendations, and provide feedback for ongoing development of policies and procedures
  5. Maintain up to date knowledge of ANUSA’s internal policies and procedures

Selection Criteria

  1. Degree in a relevant field with at least 2 years demonstrated experience in communications and marketing or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and training.
  2. Demonstrated experience in creating high level written and visual content.
  3. Demonstrated high level graphic design skills including the Adobe Creative suite, Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop
  4. High level computing skills including knowledge of website coding languages
  5. Excellent organisational and time management skills
  6. Demonstrated interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with a diverse range of people including people from diverse cultural and language backgrounds
  7. Proven commitment to a high level of client service and ability to maintain this during periods of high workload
  8. Empathy with students and with the aims of a student union.
  9. You will be required to be in Canberra for the majority of the term of the contract to assist with Orientation and start of semester activities
  10. Demonstrated ability to manage a budgetary line
  11. Demonstrated high level administrative and record keeping skills
  12. Experience in a student union or the tertiary sector will be highly valued
  13. Ability to work with a diverse team of staff and students in a dynamic environment
