Purpose Statement

The ANUSA Student Assistance Administrator will assist in administering ANUSA and ANUSA affiliated grants, programs and bursaries.

They will review grant, program and bursary applications and make an initial assessment based on set criteria. This role will also conduct general administrative work for the team, including liaising with external grant stakeholders, answering non-complex inquiries and directing students to appropriate processes.

Position Dimension and Relationship

The ANU Students’ Association, or ‘ANUSA’ is the peak representative body for all ANU students. It provides a range of services aimed at providing support for students' specific needs concerning their studies and daily life. ANUSA is run by students for students and represents students both collectively and individually. The association’s staff, supervised by the Operations Manager, are a dedicated team that works closely with the elected officers of ANUSA to provide high-quality service to students at the ANU. The Student Assistance Administrator will report to a Senior Student Assistance Advisor.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Administration & Information Handling

  • Maintain high standards of ethics, confidentiality, empathy with students, and a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Provide high-quality administrative support, including initial email correspondence, information gathering and preliminary assessment of applications against set criteria.
  • Refer students with complex needs to ANUSA’s Student Assistance Advisors, where necessary.
  • Maintain up-to-date records of grant applications received, assessment status and outcomes.
  • Maintain student records according to relevant ANUSA policies.
  • Answer non-complex grant and non-grant related queries.
  • Provide administrative support for SAT initiatives, as directed.

Strategic

  • Where relevant, provide referrals to approved ANU and Canberra community health and welfare support services.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of ANUSA’s internal programs, policies and procedures.

Operational

  • Administer ANUSA and ANUSA-affiliated grants, programs and bursaries, as directed and according to set criteria.
  • Provide routine information and advice to students and refer students with complex needs to the Student Assistance Advisors. For example, give students generic advice on the ANU Late Withdrawal or Assessment Appeals process and refer disciplinary and HDR cases to Advisors.
  • Undertake other duties as required by ANUSA, consistent with the level of the position and the work of ANUSA, including answering phone calls and attending to students presenting in the office.

  • To always respect the democratic structure of ANUSA. The post-holder will be expected to work closely with the elected officers of ANUSA and will aspire to the highest standards of integrity and impartiality regarding the advice provided to officers.
  • Aim to maintain the highest standard of care to staff and students at all times.
  • To abide by ANUSA’s constitution and the Association's policies and procedures.

Selection Criteria

  1. Relevant administrative experience or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
  2. Demonstrated experience in assessing applications against a regulatory framework.
  3. Demonstrated ability to work within a diverse staff team.
  4. Demonstrated high-level written and oral communication skills, including excellent attention to detail.
  5. Demonstrated interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with a diverse range of people, including those from diverse cultural and language backgrounds.
  6. Experience working with student organisations, community groups or in the higher education or NFP sector will be highly valued.
  7. Demonstrated knowledge of the issues facing university students.
  8. Eligibility to hold an ACT Working with Vulnerable People Card.
  9. Willing to provide a recent National Police Check.

Details of Employment

Employment will be under the STUDENT ASSOCIATIONS OF THE AUSTRALIAN NATIONAL UNIVERSITY ENTERPRISE AGREEMENT 2019 (ANUSA Enterprise Agreement). The rights and obligations of this position are set out in the above Enterprise Agreement.

Salary: $60,688.85 + 17% superannuation (ANUSA Enterprise Agreement ANUO Level 4.1) @ 0.8 FTE Hours: 0.8 FTE (28 hours per week)

Contract duration: One year with the possibility of extension.
