Belconnen - A Village for Every Child is looking for a dynamic Community Development Officer to join the Backbone team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who has a passion for change and wants to see the system working better to support young children and their families to have the best start in life.

UnitingCare Kippax is the auspicing body for A Village for Every Child and is a local, for purpose, community organisation that seeks to foster wellbeing, inclusion and empowerment. A Village for Every Child

A Village for Every Child is a cross-sector initiative that believes by improving collaboration and committing to community engagement we will ensure that all children in Belconnen are physically healthy, socially and emotionally strong and ready to engage fully in learning and life. Village works within a Collective Impact framework and a Backbone team is considered an essential component of its structure. The Backbone team helps to maintain strategic coherence, coordinates and manages the day – day operations including communication, stakeholder engagement, data collection and evaluation and supports the implementation of the work, amongst other responsibilities.

The Role

The Community Development Officer will promote local involvement in the initiative from organisations and community members to ensure decisions and planning for the improvement of provision and access to early childhood services for children are consultative and effective. The Community Development Officer will coordinate working groups, events, workshops and other key activities that align with the progress of system change under Village’s strategic direction.

Essential Criteria

  • Relevant qualifications in Community Development or equivalent, including relevant experience.
  • Cultural Awareness Training
  • Sound understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander issues, knowledge and culture, and proven ability to apply this practice.
  • Proven experience in community-led change, working across, and building relationships with a broad range of stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of programs that support culturally appropriate practice.
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to multi-task with demonstrated experience in working as a valuable part of a team.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing data collection
  • Well-developed verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to generate concise and accurate reports, briefing papers and other documentation.
  • Working with Vulnerable Persons card, police check and driver’s licence, or capacity and willingness to get them at your own expense
