WHO IS ADN?

The Australian Democracy Network (ADN) works for a healthy Australian democracy that puts people and the planet first. We bring people and organisations together to share resources and strategies so that we can have a greater impact on the issues that affect us all.

We convene a diverse group of social change makers who focus on a wide range of issues – but we all know we need a healthy democracy to win the progress we seek, and we know we need to work together to be powerful enough to change the system.

We face enormous challenges:

  • The climate and extinction crises.
  • An inequitable economy that traps people in cycles of poverty and disadvantage.
  • Struggling health and education systems.
  • Justice for First Nations people and refugees.

The big decisions which shape our future on all these issues are negotiated through our democratic process. If that process is broken, we will all get bad outcomes. To make progress, we need a healthy democracy capable of delivering the change we seek. A healthy democracy is a precondition to creating the future we want.

We campaign for reforms that make our political system more fair and representative, including reducing the undue influence of big corporate money on our political system and promoting a robust and vibrant civil society.

WHAT’S THE ROLE?

ADN are core partners of the #OurDemocracy campaign, an alliance working to build a nationwide movement of people and organisations wanting to get big money from Australian politics. The Digital Organiser will work predominantly on this campaign, executing impactful, people-powered tactics to support our integrity reform package. You’ll be using your organising nous and digital skills to grow our community of supporters and execute clear pathways to action!

ABOUT YOU

You have experience in community organising/mobilising and understand how to motivate others to take action. You believe in people power and are committed to building leadership in our community rather than being at the front of the crowd.

You’re a people person who isn’t afraid to pick up the phone and reach out to a stranger and ask them to take action. You get along with all kinds of people and are genuinely interested in them.

You can write a killer email and have a sharp eye for proof-reading. You’re familiar with the digital tools of our trade or a quick learner when it comes to new tech.

You’re organised, love a good spreadsheet and are great at prioritising tasks.

WHY WORK FOR US?

You will join a small, growing and committed team doing groundbreaking work in tackling the problems holding back Australian democracy and helping create the solutions to these problems.
