BBM YOUTH SUPPORT | VOCATIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS

BBM supports young people to become practical and holistic leaders of the future who are aligned to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). BBM provides national agriculture, horticulture and trade scholarships to vocationally educated 18-23 years olds who seek innovative solutions within their industry to advance the SDGs.

BBM also provides important information and connection services to the former youth migrants who came to Australia through the historical Big Brother Movement (1925-1982) and their families.

Financially strong and independent, the organisation is predominantly self-funded by an investment portfolio which provides income for the scholarships, the historical youth migrant services and the operational overheads of the organisation. Income from the portfolio is supported by a small sponsorship and donation program.

This is a unique opportunity to provide strategic leadership to an innovative scholarship organisation that positively promotes and supports the contribution of youth to growing a sustainable and significant Australia.

As Chair you will work collaboratively with the Board, CEO and members to:

• Provide inclusive leadership to the Board, supporting the Directors in fulfilling their duties and responsibilities for the effective governance of BBM and implementation of the governance roadmap.
• Facilitate proper information flow to the Board including the quality, sufficiency and relevance of financial and non-financial information.
• Support, and, where appropriate, challenge the CEO and ensure that the Board functions as a unit and works closely with the entire management team to achieve agreed objectives.
• Good management of the investment portfolio through the Risk & Investment sub-committee
• Effective delivery of the organisational strategic plan.
• Act as the public face of BBM in conjunction with the CEO, communicating the views of the board to the organisation’s members, stakeholders and the public.

The BBM Board prioritises strong governance and seeks to appoint a Chair with the following qualifications:

• A minimum of 2 years’ experience as a Board Chair or Chair of a sub-committee
• A degree in Business Management, Law, Community Services or similar
• A minimum of 3 years Executive Leadership with funds management and risk management experience
• Ideally, successful completion of the Australian Institute of Company Directors Course. BBM funds all new BBM Directors to complete the AICD Governance Foundations for Not-for-Profit Directors short course
• Additional experience within education, legal, marketing and communications, advocacy, sustainability, fundraising and digital technology will be well regarded
