THE ORGANISATION

The Peel-Harvey Catchment Council is a not-for-profit, community based Natural Resource Management (NRM) organisation that promotes an integrated approach to catchment management and the way it protects and restores the environment within the Peel-Harvey catchment. With a strong emphasis on partnerships, the organisation works with landholders, community groups, industry and Government to affect change ‘on-ground’ and in the way the environment is managed. The organisation is currently looking to appoint a qualified and passionate Science Advisor to be based in its Mandurah office.

THE ROLE

Reporting directly to the CEO, the Science Advisor will be responsible for providing scientific advice for catchment management to the PHCC, prepare and communicate an annual Report card to inform the community of the condition of the Peel-Yalgorup Ramsar Site, update the Science Strategy and inform/engage community. You will integrate scientific rigour into PHCC projects as well as advocate for science and scientific research. In order to achieve the goals of the organisation, your role will work with networks with researchers and research institutions in public and private sectors. The three fundamental elements of the role are to a. Monitor, Report and Communicate; b. Establish and strengthen relationships; and c. Review and understand research and research gaps.

REQUIREMENTS

If you are an experienced Scientist with relevant qualifications, a research background and a strong Natural Resource Management focus, we would like to hear from you. To be successful in the role you will have a demonstrated ability to develop strong working relationships to identify, develop and facilitate collaborative research projects to guide adaptive management. An enthusiastic individual with good interpersonal skills and resilience under pressure will be the ideal candidate for the role.

THE PACKAGE

In return you will receive a competitive remuneration package of circa $110,000 inclusive of superannuation (negotiable depending on skills and experience). The contract is an initial four years with probable extension. The role is based in the Mandurah office with flexibility to work from home or from regional offices. The organisation offers 22 days annual leave per year with the possibility to purchase an additional two weeks of leave
