At CBM Australia, our mission is to end the cycle of poverty and disability. Through our programs, technical advice, and advocacy, we help millions of people transform their lives each year. As Australia’s only international development organisation focused on disability inclusion our work improves the quality of life of people with disabilities living in the poorest countries.
Partnering with local organisations we build and promote an inclusive world in which all people with disabilities enjoy their human rights and achieve their full potential.
The Disability Inclusion Advisor will be a core member of CBM Australia’s Inclusion Advisory Group. In this recruitment process we are open to applications from candidates at both the Advisor and Senior Advisor levels, located in Melbourne or interstate.
The Inclusion Advisory Group is a team of disability inclusion advisors who work with external partners and clients in the international development and humanitarian action sector to support them to put disability inclusion into practice in their organisation and programs. We work with a range of partners throughout the international development ecosystem to support disability inclusion in their work, including by providing programming and policy advice, conducting disability related analysis, research, mentoring and capacity development. Our partners include government agencies, NGOs, managing contractors, and universities.
In this role, you will partner with the disability movement to influence organisations, institutions and systems to realise the rights of persons with disabilities. We believe that tailored input, communicated effectively, with the right people at the table, can help make equity and inclusion a reality.
Our work is fast-paced, diverse and ever-evolving. Working with us, you could be involved in analysing data to identify barriers that might be preventing people with disabilities from actively participating in and equally benefiting from international development programs, facilitating a workshop, or helping an overseas disability rights organisation create a new strategy for how they can influence development processes (sometimes, all in the same week).
We are looking for someone who can bring a balance of knowledge, skills and advisory experience to complement our existing team and pool of consultants, to help meet the growing demand for our services.
Our team of Disability Inclusion Advisors is made up of people from a variety of professional backgrounds and life experiences, including allied health professionals, development and humanitarian workers, social workers, human rights lawyers, and former diplomats. We want to work with colleagues who believe their experience and interest aligns with and can help inform our vision and approach.
To be considered for this role, you will have:
Additional demonstrated skills and experience in two or more of the following areas would be beneficial:
