The Business Development Unit is a not-for-profit operational unit operating under the Yamatji Southern Regional Corporation Ltd (YSRC). It is governed by a subsidiary of the Corporation, Yamatji Enterprises Ltd (YEL).

This role is responsible for leading the Business Development Unit’s operations, in line with Committee direction and will undertake the following duties:
- Deliver the Business Development Unit’s business plan as directed by the YEL Board.
- Develop and implement strategy and governance elements, that provides BDU accountability to its stakeholders and delivers as per expected performance.
- Establish eligibility requirements for business support services and promote Business Development Unit assistance outreach to a wide range of business types and sizes, individual capacities, ages, gender etc. and a deliver a diverse and appropriate range of support offerings to clients.
- Establish and maintain appropriate record keeping that maintains, client confidentiality and provide employees with required guidance manuals and training to enable adherence to policies, procedures, and guidelines of the Business Development Unit.
- Provide reports to the Board on the progress of goals and responsibilities, assessing these against the Business Development Unit key performance indicators and approved budget.
- Build and maintain strategic relationships through the application of stakeholder management and networking activities, including implementation of a stakeholder management plan.
- Develop policies, procedures, forms, and guidelines for the operations of BDU.
- Develop and review policy and guidelines for the Members who access services.
- Develop board schedules, prepare, and circulate minutes and undertake general administration of Board processes and activities.
- Manage and coordinate Business Development Unit operational functions including human resource management, occupational safety and health, business administration systems, insurance, vehicle lease arrangements, records management, accounts payable and receivable, and payroll (with the support of a bookkeeper).
- Provide decision making support to the Business Development Coordinator.
Essential Selection Criteria
- Proven experience working in a similar role.
- Understanding and commitment to enhancing and supporting Aboriginal business and community.
- Demonstrated experience in coordinating the operations of a small to medium enterprise, including leading a small team.
- Demonstrated experience developing governance frameworks and establishing compliance.
- Demonstrated experience providing support to a Board or committee.
- Highly developed interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build relationships with a range of stakeholders.
- Demonstrated organisational skills and the ability to multitask effectively.
- Demonstrated conceptual and analytical skills, with the proven ability to innovate and think ‘outside of the box’ when overcoming challenges.
- Proven ability to act with integrity and make ethical decisions that achieves success.
Desirable Criteria
- A qualification in a relevant Business discipline.
- Business development related experience.
- Experience working in a regional context.
Special requirements/equipment
- Intrastate travel may be required.
