Geeveston Community Centre is one of 35 Neighbourhood Houses around Tasmania offering accessible, locally driven programs in response to community needs. Improving people's lives though the provision of quality opportunities for well-being, learning, growth and support.
We are seeking a Community Care Advisor to join our team on a part-time basis to provide individual, family and community-based support to those within the Huon Valley region. This role is part of the innovative Community Care Advisor Pilot Program funded by the Tasmanian Government Department of Premier and Cabinet.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
- Provide professional support, information, advocacy, referrals and assistance to individual and families with complex support needs
- Build people’s strengths and enhance personal capacity, supporting them to increase community connections and participation
- Build and maintain strong networks and service delivery partnerships with local service providers and community stakeholders
- Work with people from all backgrounds and cultures, engaging them in a way that is empowering and respectful of circumstances, supporting them to nurture their community.
- Assist the work already underway by staff and volunteers at Geeveston Community Centre in addition to supporting activities and programs run at the Centre
- Participate in a Community of Practice with Community Care Advisors from other Neighbourhood Houses around Tasmania
Requirements for Success
- Experience working with marginalised / disadvantaged people and/or knowledge of multidisciplinary issues impacting vulnerable individuals and families such as poverty, unemployment, mental health, family violence, substance use and other social factors;
- Understanding of Trauma informed approach;
- Strong emotional intelligence, resilience, non-judgemental, empathy, and perseverance.
- Well-developed interpersonal and writing skills including the ability to write reports, collect data, prepare correspondence and provide required information within program guidelines;
- High level initiative, problem solving and resilience skills including the ability to maintain a positive outlook, see the ‘bigger picture’, identify opportunities and implement solutions;
- Excellent time management and organisational skills with the ability to manage own work flows in conjunction with the manager;
- Experience with Microsoft Office Computer applications
- Current Tasmanian Drivers Licence

- Tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Community Services, Psychology or related discipline; or clearly demonstrated extensive experience attained through previous appointments, service and/or study. Please advise (Certified documents will need to be provided);
- Experience, knowledge and understanding of the complexities for people living in rural and remote areas, particularly the challenges for vulnerable community members; and how to apply person-centred and solution-focused support to address complex challenges;
- Demonstrated experience in creating meaningful stakeholder relationships within the social services sector and across broader community networks;
- Demonstrated capacity for self-direction as well as personal skills of initiative, adaptability, judgment, flexibility, discretion, and planning;
- The capacity to manage self-care, exercise resilience and self-reflection practices that respect and maintain personal and professional boundaries;
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
