Working closely with the Hagar Australia Executive Director and alongside the Fundraising and Communications Specialist and Program Quality Manager, this new role is critical in supporting the income generating goals of Hagar Australia. This role is both strategic and operational and will play a critical role in growing the impact of the organisation through identifying, nurturing and growing key funding relationships and commitments.

Hagar Australia works as part of the global federated Hagar International network, to transform the lives of women and children who have been trafficked, enslaved or abused. We do this work in Afghanistan, Cambodia, Vietnam. Myanmar and Singapore.

Established 26 years ago, Hagar has forged an international reputation for its comprehensive model of trauma-informed care. Hagar was founded as a Christian organisation and continues to adhere to these values.

The Role

Reporting to the Hagar Australia Executive Director the role will develop and grow major donor income with a focus on private philanthropy, trusts and foundations, other NGO’s, and corporates. Specifically, the role will:

  • Identify, cultivate, solicit and steward relationships with potential and existing major donors to maximise long-term support
  • Develop and implement the strategic Philanthropy program
  • Undertake research to identify and develop potential sources of major income
  • Develop processes to ensure opportunities are maximised and deadlines achieved
  • Identify, submit for and monitor grant funding opportunities (including trust and foundation grants and sub-grants with other NGO’s) including maintaining a relevant database and implement a dynamic timetable for applications.
  • Effectively collaborate with Hagar Australia Program Manager and relevant Hagar International program offices to monitor, manage and deliver donor and grant acquittals- including scheduling and writing acquittal reports.

Key selection criteria

The right candidate for the position will have:

  • Strong track record in major donor fundraising and grants
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including proven skills in influencing and inspiring high net-worth individuals and funding bodies
  • Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal
  • An ability to think and plan strategically to identify funding opportunities
  • Understanding of and commitment to the values and mission of Hagar Australia, including child protection
  • Strong understanding of the Australian philanthropic and giving environment
  • An ability to operate effectively in a remote working environment
