Health Consumers Tasmania

About Health Consumers Tasmania

Health Consumers Tasmania is a small, not-for-profit community-based organisation that was established in 2019. We report to an independent board and are funded by the Tasmanian Department of Health and Primary Health Tasmania.

We have over 800 Tasmanians who either closely work with us or follow us online – whom we affectionately refer to as our ‘community of interest’.

The aim of Health Consumers Tasmania is to empower the Tasmanian community to have meaningful input into their health system to ensure it meets their needs.

About Tasman voice for health and the tasman connect project

Health Consumers Tasmania supports a number of health-related community / consumer groups in regions across the state. These place-based health groups are community-led and have purposes and ways of working that reflect the region and local community need, with a focus on innovative community-led initiatives and advocacy that aims to improve health and wellbeing outcomes.

The Tasman Voice for Health is a community group in the Tasman Municipality that has been established since early 2022 to act as an advocacy and action group for community-led solutions to local health issues.

Tasman Connect is a community health literacy initiative which aims to increase the awareness and knowledge of, as well as access to local health and health-related services on the Tasman Peninsula.

It is based around a community-initiated Online Directory (tasmanconnect.org.au) and the "no wrong door" approach of the Right Place Initiative (About the Initiative - The Right Place).

This role involves:

  • Supporting the advocacy, sustainability and membership and development of the Tasman Voice for Health group.
  • Supporting the maintenance, development and promotion of the Tasman Connect directory in collaboration with other project staff, community and service stakeholders.
