This part-time position (0.4-0.6 FTE) is responsible for coordinating KHG’s horticultural output in line with therapeutic horticulture principles. The Coordinator will actively assist the Principal Practitioner in the development and implementation of therapeutic horticulture principles throughout KHG’s programming for people with a disability. The Coordinator will work closely with KHG Trainers and Support Workers and KHG program participants to maintain, develop and enhance the KHG nurseries, gardens and facilities, under direction from the Principal Practitioner and Chief Operating Officer.
GROW Glen Eira provides horticultural training – both in a workplace and in the classroom – for young people of all abilities who are seeking employment. The Coordinator will actively support a small number of Trainees during their work placement at KHG’s nurseries.

Salary range $64,299 - $68,962 pro rata plus generous salary packaging
CORE FUNCTIONS
May include:
- Coordinating processes and procedures relevant to the operation of KHG nurseries;
- Coordinating planning of the KHG gardens, in collaboration with the Chief Operating Officer and Principal Practitioner;
- Actively assisting the Principal Practitioner to model best practice therapeutic horticulture approaches to the delivery of KHG core programs;
- Assisting the Principal Practitioner, Manager – Client Services and KHG Trainers to ensure that core program activities contribute to the maintenance, operation and enhancement of the KHG gardens, nurseries and facilities, through consultation with the Chief Operating Officer;
- Providing horticultural advice to KHG staff, including the contribution of knowledge in establishing procedures;
- Providing on-site training and development to GROW Glen Eira trainees and ensuring that involvement in the program is contributing towards achieving the goals of trainees, as relevant;
- Assisting the Principal Practitioner to develop the GROW Glen Eira program model and participating in program evaluation, as required;
- Assisting the Principal Practitioner with the assessment and induction of new GROW Glen Eira trainees;
- Planning and organising their own work and that of others as required;
- Working as part of a cooperative multidisciplinary team;
- Demonstrating empathy and respect, contributing to a safe and welcoming environment for a diverse group of people;
- Work outdoors within a garden and nursery environment, using horticultural and other hands-on skills on a daily basis;
- Task-based supervision and support of junior staff, students on placement, and volunteers, as required;

Key Selection Criteria
- Significant horticultural experience;
- An understanding of therapeutic horticulture as it applies to disability and mental health;
- Experience working with people with disabilities;
- Capacity to build effective working relationships with multiple stakeholders;
- Demonstrated capacity to make timely and appropriate decisions;
- Ability to successfully work as a member of a multidisciplinary team in a complex work environment;
- Capacity to provide effective training, mentoring and support to Trainees as part of the horticultural work readiness program GROW Glen Eira;
- Computer literacy.
Desirable
- Nursery management experience;
- Qualifications in horticulture;
- Qualifications in social work, occupational therapy, youth work, teaching or related discipline would be highly regarded.
