ABOUT THE ROLE

Men’s Sheds of WA is the peak organisation supporting over 180 men’s sheds across Western Australia. It is our mission to support and promote the wellbeing and health of men through building a sustainable community of men’s sheds and community sheds.

We have recently launched a new website and a social media presence, and we are seeking a knowledge expert to help us meet our following strategic priorities:

  • Expand the reach of the men’s sheds network.
  • Promote diversity and inclusiveness of WA sheds.
  • Improve the longer term viability of Men’s Sheds of WA and WA’s sheds.
  • Inform and influence decision-makers to act in the interest of WA’s sheds and their communities.
  • Better demonstrate the value and community impact of Sheds in WA.

We are looking for someone to manage all aspects of our communications including writing newsletters, case studies, submissions, website updates, sharing of insights from events or initiatives, social media content production and to ensure that these tools are effective in meeting our strategic goals.

Key responsibilities

Website. Continue to develop and improve our website to facilitate successful conversions for users. Including developing an online shed directory to promote sheds to future members and funders.

E-newsletter. Produce a regular e-newsletter that provides sheds with relevant information to help their management committees with the ongoing operations of their sheds and information on health and wellbeing.

Magazine. Develop the Men’s Sheds of WA magazine to engage a wider audience and promote the benefits of men’s sheds.

Events support. Help organise the biennial WA men’s sheds conference and promote Men’s Sheds of WA events and cross promote events organised by men’s sheds.

Reporting. Lead on the production of our annual report/ Work with our team to collect and tell impactful stories from our small grants program.

Administrative. Manage the incoming email communications and distribute tasks to the wider team/ Undertake additional administrative tasks as required in a small team.

Social media coordination. Collaborate with our team to create visually engaging and high-quality content for our social media platforms. Monitor and manage all social media platforms.

Media. Manage all ongoing media opportunities, campaigns and contacts.

ROLE AND REMUNERATION

This position is offered on a one year, fixed term, part time basis of 20 hours a week. The salary specified above compensates for any additional hours the employee may work and the employee will not receive additional remuneration, including penalty rates or overtime, for hours worked. Time in lieu may be provided for approved additional hours worked.

We are very flexible in our approach, and open to accommodate the candidate’s needs where it can align with the business needs.

Men’s Sheds of WA is working to establish an office base. Presently the successful candidate will have the capacity to work from home. A fuel allowance is available for travel to work events.

In addition to working for a small collaborative and supportive team, Men’s Sheds of WA provides a very flexible working environment. Key benefits include working from home, flexible working arrangements, three days additional leave over the Christmas/New Year period and access to salary packaging (up to $15,900 in tax-free pay per year).

Selection criteria

Applicants need to show demonstrated experience or knowledge of the Essential Criteria and where possible supported by the Desirable Criteria:

Essential

  • Relevant and demonstrable experience in communications and marketing.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to plan, drive and deliver communication/marketing outcomes to meet strategic goals.
  • Highly organised, self-motivated and able to work independently.
  • Keen collaborator and team player – able to build and nurture strong relationships and networks.

Desirable

  • Photo/ video editing, Adobe suite of programs, Microsoft 365 suite, general interest and comfort around software.
  • Wordpress website management.
  • Experience in organising events.
  • A passion for improving men’s health in WA.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Hours are to be worked flexibly to meet the needs of the organisation and work may be required to be performed at any time from Monday to Sunday.

The role is subject to a probationary period of three months.

Given the nature of our work and that we are engaging with vulnerable members of the community, it is mandatory for staff and volunteers to be vaccinated against COVID-19.

National police clearance.
