Your new role

As a Young Carer Engagement Advisor you will be responsible for:

  • Advising consortia partners of evidence based principles and interventions that are effective in working with young carers
  • Assisting consortia partners to develop strategies and initiatives to reach ‘hidden’ young carers
  • Facilitating strategic initiatives and partnerships with key stakeholders to raise awareness of health and well-being issues experienced by young carers
  • Overseeing activities that support young carers to remain in educations and/or employment
  • Ensuring that targeted marketing strategies are implemented and facilitate the provision of outreach services to organisations such as schools, youth services, training organisations, employers etc

What you’ll need to succeed

To be successful with Merri you will go above and beyond to achieve great results for our clients, the organisation and yourself. We’re looking for individuals with:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Community Development, Youth Work, Social Work, or appropriate, equivalent discipline or experience
  • Knowledge of the community care sector, including the challenges faced by young carers and carers of people with a disability, chronic illness, mental health condition and the aged
  • Abilities to negotiate and advocate with a wide range of health and community support agencies and create/maintain effective partnerships
  • Experience in planning, developing, coordinating, implementing and evaluating community initiatives
