North Richmond Community Health (NRCH) is committed to making healthcare more accessible and culturally relevant. NRCH provides a range of medical, allied health, dental and community services to clients from all backgrounds.

The Centre for Culture, Ethnicity & Health (CEH) is a unique agency offering expertise in cultural diversity and health, cultural competence, social marketing, cross-cultural communication, consumer participation and health literacy to organisations across Australia.

The Multicultural Health and Support Service (MHSS) is a program of CEH that works to prevent new incidences and transmission of STIs, HIV, blood borne viruses (BBVs) and viral hepatitis among people from refugee and migrant backgrounds, asylum seekers and international students. MHSS works with communities and health professionals to promote their sexual health and wellbeing.

The Community Engagement and Projects Officer (0.8 EFT, 4 days a week until 30 June 2025) position will:

  • Support MHSS work with specific communities and organisations to facilitate initiatives that demonstrate cultural competence, health literate practice, community participation and workforce capacity building
  • Focus on BBV/STI prevention and management, sexual and reproductive health, harm reduction, healthy relationships and behavioural change
  • Contribute to MHSS community education and community action initiatives targeting people from high prevalence communities across Victoria

Roles and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop evidence-based content and deliver education sessions to targeted communities and stakeholders
  • Support community engagement and community action / health promotion activities
  • Develop evidence-based content and deliver workforce development workshops for staff in community and health organisations
  • Promote the health rights of people from migrant and refugee backgrounds
  • Build and maintain effective and sustainable relationships with community and health organisations
  • Manage projects and portfolios as required

Key Selection Criteria

Essential qualifications, attributes and skills include, but are not limited to:

  • Relevant Diploma qualification in diversity, health promotion or related field
  • Demonstrated experience and ability to engage with boys and men on a variety of personal and health subjects in culturally appropriate ways
  • Minimum 5 years demonstrated cultural competence in working with diverse communities
  • High level demonstrated written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong project management skills and experience
  • Knowledge and skills in delivering community education sessions on sensitive issues, sexual and reproductive health, BBV/STI and healthy relationships
  • Sound understanding of community engagement principles and peer led models of practice

Desired

  • Ability to speak a language from Asia and/or possess cultural knowledge from this region
  • Ability to speak a language from Latin America and/or possess cultural knowledge from this region
  • Ability to speak a language from the Pacific Islands and/or possess cultural knowledge from this region
  •  Certificate IV in Workplace Training and Assessment
  • From a refugee or migrant background

Please note it is a requirement for all employees of North Richmond Community Health to demonstrate evidence of mandatory immunisations/vaccinations prior to commencement of employment, based on the Immunisation Category their position falls under.
