The National Disability Research Partnership (NDRP) funds research led by and with people with disability. We are looking for a communications expert to join our small, dynamic team to implement and manage our communications.

We are building a diverse team and strongly encourage people with disability to apply. This is a flexible, work from home position (anywhere in Australia) that actively supports inclusion and accessibility.

Important notes

  • This is a new role, created to help the NDRP get established and deliver its program of work
  • We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees
  • Join a small team of up to 5 people, all working from anywhere in Australia
  • It is a part time role (half time or three days per week) with flexible hours
  • Level 7 role with the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services (SCHADS) Award.

About the role

The Communications Lead will develop and implement a communication strategy that makes sure are communications from the NDRP are accessible, inclusive and available in a range of formats. The Communications Lead will create and manage communications content that support the NDRP to achieve its vision. There will be opportunity for involvement in a range of projects, including working with researchers and the NDRP’s knowledge to action activities to make evidence available in a range of ways.

Tasks will include (but aren’t limited to):

  • Create and implement the NDRP’s communication strategy
  • Manage our newsletter, social media, website, photos, videos, blogs and other media as appropriate
  • Create engaging, accessible and inclusive information in a range of formats
  • Find and implement innovative and creative approaches to communication
  • Support the NDRP’s knowledge to action program of work
  • Respond to media inquiries and support the CEO as required
  • Support with organising NDRP events
  • Develop, implement, and maintain communications policies.

There will be lots of opportunities to get involved in a range of projects, as we will have a small team who will all pitch in and support each other.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for someone who is passionate about inclusive and accessible communication. Ideally you will have:

  • Experience in working in communications for organisations, including developing communication strategies and creating content
  • A good understanding of inclusive and accessible communications for people with disability
  • Ability to adapt communications so they can be accessed by a range of people
  • Experience working with a diverse range of people with disability
  • An understanding of the population groups who are excluded by inaccessible communications
  • Solutions-based and creative approach to improving accessibility
  • A commitment to a human rights based approach and the NDRP principles
  • Lived experience of disability would be ideal but isn’t essential
  • Tertiary qualifications in communications would also be ideal but isn’t essential
  • Either experience in creating Easy Read materials, or the willingness to learn.
