The Offshore Alliance is a successful member-led industrial organisation that combines the industrial, organising and legal resources of The Australian Workers’ Union and the Maritime Union of Australia. The Alliance organises in all sectors of the offshore hydrocarbons sector including production, maintenance, inspection, construction, drilling, catering, ROV and aviation. The Alliance currently has over 2,000 financial members.

The Alliance was formed to protect and advance the interests of workers in the offshore sector through targeted campaigns, strategic bargaining and worker empowerment, always putting the interests of its members first. The Alliance has grown significantly in the past year and now requires an additional Organiser to ensure that member recruitment and servicing continues at current levels.

The position will be based in Perth and the successful applicant will be responsible for building worker power in a team environment through the recruitment and servicing of members and the development of sustainable activist and delegate structures. The successful applicant will be required to work to larger campaign plans as well as independently as required. As many sites that the Alliance organises are not easily accessible, it is a critical requirement that any applicant is proficient in written communications and is familiar with Microsoft Office.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

  • Passionate about fighting for and securing industrial rights for working people
  • Proficiency in written communication –most of your communication with members and potential members will be via email
  • Proficient in computer skills – drafting communications, formatting, etc
  • Works well in a team environment and independently, shows initiative and can take direction
  • Strong communication skills both in writing and in person – ability to engage others
  • Strong planning, time management and strategic thinking skills
  • Ability to understand and interpret industrial instruments and workplace law
  • Strong work ethic – some long hours and weekend work will arise from time to time
  • Strong negotiation skills and ability to identify issues and interests of members
  • Preparedness to travel from time to time
  • Ability to obtain and hold a federal Right of Entry Permit
  • Current driver license

DESIRABLE

  • Experience working in a similar role in a similar organisation
  • Experience working in the offshore hydrocarbons sector

Salary: $114,000 and 11% superannuation. Vehicle provided. Monthly RDO.
