What is Multisystemic Therapy?

As a Therapist providing Multisystemic Therapy you will work in a clinical team that consists of a Senior Clinician/MST Program Supervisor, 3 MST Therapists and a crisis case worker.

MST is widely considered the gold standard for treatment of adolescent antisocial behaviour and is utilised in the US, Europe, the UK, and NZ. MST-CAN is an adaptation of MST US model and is targeted to families who have recent risk of harm reports pertaining to ongoing child abuse and neglect.

MST provides intensive treatment to families for a period of around 3 to 5 months including specific clinical treatments that target areas such as trauma, mental health and drug and alcohol misuse.

Your role:

  • Work intensively with family members with high risk and complex needs to provide direct effective treatment
  • Provide directed behavioural therapy targeting behavioural change
  • Implement a problem conceptualisation, treatment planning, intervention implementation, case outcome review, and strategy revision procedure using the MST Analytic Process.
  • Systemic assessment and comprehensive safety planning
  • CBT for anger management and behaviour management planning
  • Evidence-based trauma treatment for children (TFCBT) and adults (PET)
  • Substance abuse treatment (reinforcement-based treatment)
  • Strategic family therapy and parent training
  • Ensure all assessments are comprehensive and multisystemic

Who we are looking for:

  • The qualifications for MST-CAN Therapists are Bachelor or Masters level Psychologists who are registeredPsychologists. Master of Social Work candidates are also eligible for the Therapist position
  • Fit of experience in Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy including trauma treatment, Structural Family Therapy, Strategic Family Therapy, and behaviourally-based treatments highly regarded.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated experience using evidence based clinical practices and their application to treat families
  • Availability to provide periodic on-call 24-hour coverage once every 3 weeks
  • Understanding of family systems
  • Risk assessment and safety planning
  • Knowledge of and/or experience working in mental health would also be high regarded
  • Current driving license

  • Salary range from $92,000-$96,000 dependent upon experience
