SEE-Change is a grass-roots organisation that aims to create and support fair and sustainable living in the ACT. In particular, we aim to reduce the population’s ecological footprint by responding positively to climate change, reducing consumption and promoting active travel.

We are seeking a part-time Executive Officer to lead the day-to-day operation of SEE-Change. The role of Executive Officer is supported by two other part-time employees of SEE-Change, our volunteer board and other key volunteers.

A high level of organisational skills and experience in building relationships with the government and/or community sector is required, together with an ability to lead and inspire others.

The Executive Officer will work closely with the SEE-Change staff, Committee (board) and members, the ACT government, local environment and community groups, and volunteers on a range of tasks, including:

  • Developing community-based change through transformation projects
  • Building alliances with local organisations and businesses
  • Organising project work and office administration (including financial), supported by our Projects and Admin Officer, Treasurer and bookkeeper
  • Reporting to, and working with, the SEE-Change Committee
  • Promoting SEE-Change through media, newsletters, social media and public presentations
  • Fundraising

This role is for 28 hours per week. The role will initially be for 12 months with the possibility of extension to mid-2025 (which is the end of SEE-Change’s current ACT Government funding cycle). Remuneration will be negotiated based on experience level of the successful applicant and will be in accordance with the Social and Community Services Employees State Award (ACT), Level 5 - pay point 1 to Level 6 – pay point 1 plus superannuation. 

An agreed flexible working arrangement would allow you to work from home at times. Weekend and after-hours work may also be required on occasions.

SELECTION CRITERIA

  • Demonstrated high level communication skills. This includes: building relationships and negotiating with a broad range of stakeholders, such as government, community organisations and a diversity of people; producing high quality written communication for a range of audiences; conducting public presentations; and engaging with senior managers or committee/board structures.
  • Demonstrated high level strategic, research/analytical/problem solving skills. This includes: the ability to think strategically and exercise sound judgement to identify priority issues that need attention; and to develop acceptable solutions within a constrained volunteer, service delivery environment.
  • Demonstrated interest and experience in any relevant areas. This includes: environment/sustainable development; community development; and climate change.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a high level of autonomy, to manage community development projects and to prioritise a range of tasks within tight timeframes.
  • Demonstrated experience of working with small teams to deliver results. This includes managing and supporting staff and/or volunteers.
  • Demonstrated experience in office administration (financial and budgeting) and using a range of relevant software programs.
  • Tertiary qualifications or equivalent professional experience in the areas noted under Selection Criteria 3 will be well regarded.
