St David’s Neighbourhood Community Outreach

St David’s Neighbourhood Centre is a place of welcome for members of our community and provides opportunities for connection, inclusion, and support. The organisations outreach and support activities includes providing information, referral, and advice along with emergency relief and referral for those in need. The organisation also has a Free Meal Program, runs monthly Community Breakfast BBQ's and St David’s Neighbourhood Centre Thrift Shop.

The Role:

This is a new position and is offered as permanent part time at 55 hours per fortnight reporting directly to the Neighbourhood Centre Coordinator. The Community Outreach Worker is the first point of contact for St David’s Neighbourhood Centre Community Members who present to the centre for assistance. This role provides support and works with people offering opportunities for them to improve their quality of life, develop their skills and make decisions about their future. This is achieved through brief intervention assistance and support for those who are homelessness, at risk of homelessness, experiencing financial hardship, food insecurity or have other unmet needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Be the first point of contact for community members when they contact the centre for assistance.
  • Work with individuals to identify their unmet needs, provide information, assistance, and referrals.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with other organisations, support services and stakeholders.
  • Assist with planning and be involved in the organisations outreach activities such as Free Meals Program, Community BBQ Breakfasts, and others as they arise.
  • Work with the Neighbourhood Centre Coordinator in planning and executing activities to meet funding outcome requirements (projects, events, resources). This may involve after hours and weekend activities.

We are looking for candidates with:

  • Skills, experience, and problem-solving ability when working with diverse community members
  • Relevant qualification in Human Services (e.g., Social Work, Community Services) or appropriate industry experience
  • Ability to work with limited supervision in accordance with organisational guidelines.
  • National Criminal History Check Certificate and Disability Worker Screening (or be willing to apply for these)

Skills that would be an asset to you in this role:

  • Ability to be flexible and willingness to listen to others
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft office Suite
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
  • Willingness to work within the ethos of the Uniting Church
