Our organisation

The Water Well Project is a not-for-profit organisation. Our mission is to promote good health and wellbeing to communities from migrant, refugee and asylum seeker backgrounds to improve their health literacy. Our vision is that all communities from migrant, refugee and asylum seeker backgrounds achieve equitable access to healthcare.

The Water Well Project works closely with partner organisations already working with people of migrant, refugee and asylum seeker backgrounds to develop culturally sensitive and interactive health education sessions. Since 2011, The Water Well Project has delivered over 1050 sessions across Victoria, New South Wales and Tasmania. Our volunteers are healthcare professionals (doctors, nurses, midwives, and allied health) who donate their knowledge and time to deliver health education sessions outside their hours of paid professional work.

The role of Development Coordinator is responsible for managing all opportunities of income for The Water Well Project, particularly in the domains of grants, fundraising and donations. This paid role will work alongside our CEO, with the support and assistance of our Board and volunteer management committee.

The Water Well Project is looking for someone who demonstrates the organisation’s values, is proactive and passionate about improving the health outcomes and wellbeing of individuals from migrant, refugee and asylum seeker backgrounds.

Key Responsibilities

  • Proactively prepare applications for government, philanthropic and corporate grant funding and awards in a timely manner.
  • Develop and implement a fundraising strategy and fundraising toolkit.
  • Manage, contribute and coordinate fundraising activities.
  • Network and reach wider audiences who may promote and/or engage with the activities of The Water Well Project.
  • Represent The Water Well Project to philanthropic institutions, donors, corporate sponsors and other funders where required and form linkages with relevant communities, organisations and the business sector.
  • Manage online and offline donor relations for community fundraising campaigns.
  • Maintain our Prospectus.
  • Prepare and distribute regular stakeholder communications including quarterly e-newsletter.
  • Work closely with the Communications and Marketing team to promote the work of The Water Well Project especially for community fundraising campaigns; as well as research innovative online and offline opportunities to facilitate fundraising and brand awareness.
  • Track and log fundraising activities and funding opportunities.
  • Perform ad hoc event administration as required.

Key Selection Criteria

  • Must have previous experience in the not-for-profit and/or business sector, demonstrated success building a similar organisation’s revenue stream, preparing grant applications and a sound understanding of relationship fundraising.
  • Ability to develop and maintain professional working relationships with external funding agencies, including but not limited to government bodies, corporate sponsors, Trusts and Foundations, and individual donors.
  • Knowledge of professional fundraising standards, practices and regulatory compliance issues.
  • Ability to work independently and alongside the CEO, Board and volunteer management team.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite, CRM software (Vega Works or similar), social media and online fundraising platforms.

Reporting

The role reports to the CEO.

Expectations

  • 15.2 hours per week (0.4 FTE) with flexible working hours across the week
  • Fixed term of 12 months, with potential to extend based on funding and performance.
  • Subject to a probation period of 3 months.
  • Most of the work will be undertaken from your own workstation at home. Just as in an office, your workstation must be set up in a way that is safe, comfortable and easy to use.
  • The successful candidate will require a current Working With Children Check.

Remuneration

Remuneration is determined through a role comparison of peer market data and an employee’s current skill set. Remuneration will be comparable to similar positions within the not-for-profit sector, and dependent on the successful applicant’s prior experience. Years of experience, qualifications, demonstration of our values and ongoing performance will determine the applicable salary.
