Reporting to the Executive Officer the Community Development Coordinator plays the lead role in the delivery of The Settlement’s community work. The Community Development Coordinator will focus on the development and facilitation of social connection and wellbeing groups, community events, and opportunities for participation in The Settlement's 130 Years of Stories Campaign and Edward Street Fair.
This role will be focused on providing culturally safe and specific engagement for the local Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community. This role will be supported by The Settlement's Executive Officer, Project Officer, Child and Family Program Coordinator and Youth Program Coordinator. This role will work from a holistic, trauma-informed and strengths-based approach, in partnership with local community members and organisations.
The Community Development Coordinator will ensure that all their projects, groups and events align with the values and ethos of The Settlement as well as any current Government and NSW Health advice and regulations and will make any changes necessary to project delivery to ensure the health and safety of all participants.
1. Community Needs Assessment
The Community Development Coordinator will develop and implement an assessment of community needs and services required due to the ongoing impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, providing recommendations for future service delivery and programs at The Settlement. The aim of this role is to increase the sense of belonging and social and emotional wellbeing for the children, young people, families and members of our local communities with a culturally inclusive and safe focus. The Settlement has historically and continues to be a safe place of gathering for the local community. This position will play the lead role in strengthening the connection that community gain from coming to The Settlement.
2. Creating opportunities for strengthening connection, belonging and wellbeing
This is a new position that has come from community consultation throughout COVID-19. Due to the disconnection and social isolation experienced by so many as a result of the pandemic, the Community Development Coordinator will work with the community to create opportunities for community members regardless of age or culture to come together, strengthen belonging, social connection and wellbeing. The Settlement's 130 Year Anniversary is an opportunity for The Community Development Coordinator to bring together those who have connected with The Settlement throughout its history to share and celebrate their stories. The outcomes for this position include community members feeling re-connected through engaging in social programs, community events and The Settlement's 130 Year Anniversary Campaign.
3. Partnerships and collaboration
The Settlement has a long-established relationship with local organisations in the area. The Community Development Coordinator will work closely with other local organisations, creating new connections and strengthening existing ones to promote improved cross organisation collaboration.
Salary starting from SCHADS 5.1, dependent on skills and experience
