Ubuntu Food Hub Coordinator Role

United African Farm

who we are

The United African Farm (UAF) is a community-led initiative in Cardinia (VIC) that brings together over 80 families from 10 different African countries, representing a wide diversity of cultures and languages. The UAF seeks to build a community that can unify, empower and support its members regardless of their background, ethnicity, or education; pass the knowledge of the diverse history and practices that the membership represents between the diverse cultures and generations. And create strong connections to the land in Cardinia Shire and to the continent from which its members came.

The Ubuntu Food Hub is the UAF’s response to the community’s need for increased access to healthy, affordable, culturally appropriate foods in Cardinia Shire.

VicHealth will fund the Ubuntu Food Hub from December 2022 until 30th June 2025. The Hub aims to increase the local production and supply of fresh, culturally appropriate foods while engaging the community in opportunities to grow, harvest, share, eat, and learn about culturally significant foods and food production. The Hub will provide a unique and innovative model that promotes food justice and sovereignty for multicultural community members, groups, and the broader community by delivering educational, capacity-building youth empowerment and community integration programs.

This role will work closely with UAF members, report directly to the UAF board, and Liaise constantly with VicHealth, the project funders, and Sustain: Australia Food Network, the auspice organisation.

This role will also be responsible for enabling community voices and active participation, collaborating with a range of partner organisations and recruiting and mentoring youth trainees to support the delivery of the project outcomes.

The objectives of the Food Hub are to:
