The Union is seeking to employ an Organiser based in its Sydney office (NSW). The position requires that the successful applicant must reside within an approximate maximum of one hour’s drive of Sydney or be willing to relocate as agreed or within 6 months of commencing in the role (whichever occurs first).

The position requires the ability to attend to the needs of the membership in all industry sectors covered by the Union, including Local Government and the Clerical and Administrative Sector.

You will be required to develop and implement organising plans, this includes developing, educating and supporting workplace delegates and activists, increasing levels of membership and activism, including the direct recruitment of new members and assisting the effective operation and projects of delegates’ committees, identify organising opportunities in the workplace and assist members and delegates in the handling of such issues as well as providing evidence and examples of your ability to provide advanced skills in conflict resolution, problem solving and relationship building. Assist members and delegates in the development and negotiation of enterprise/ workplace agreements. Coordinate and manage campaigns and other major activities of the USU. Able to work with members and stakeholders to develop and implement union policy objectives and be able to do provide advocacy.

  • A vehicle is supplied as a tool of trade.
  • Salary range is from grade 3 level 1 $82,307 pa (plus superannuation) to grade 3 level 5 $94,016 pa (plus superannuation). With further advancement possible to the next grade 4 level 1 after 12 months satisfactory service after reaching grade 3 level 5.

The Union’s selection process involves a range of pre-employment assessments, including referee checks and pre-employment medical screening. The medical screening consists of a functional assessment, audiometry test and psychosocial assessment. Full details are available upon request.
