The Junior Ranger Program Supervisor (temporary to 30th December 2024 but with potential for extension and upgrade) will receive guidance and direction from the AAAC Program Coordinator and work closely with the AAAC Alternative Education Engagement Program Facilitators to implement and monitor weekly (at least twice per week) junior ranger activities for young fellas, girls and young women in Ltyentye Apurte.

The following are the main duties, but in this new and evolving program other reasonable duties may be included.

Main duties

  • Plan bush and suitable town trips for the program’s participating young people (normally day trips, with occasional overnight camps);
  • Plan suitable specific yet flexible activities out bush for and with the participants;
  • Help to assemble the necessary resources for the bush (and town) trips, including for safety;
  • Attend most of the program’s bush and town trips;
  • Help to maintain high participant interest and suitable behaviour on trips;
  • Liaise with participants’ parents as necessary, including to help determine any transitions from school to employment via the program and/or any desire for more ranger skills, knowledge and leadership experience;
  • Be responsible for program monitoring: recording participant names and numbers and trip numbers, short reports of bush (and town) trips and activities, any employment transitions and interest in more ranger skills, knowledge and experience;
  • Help compile the monitoring information above into a program stage 1 report to guide the program into its second stage;
  • Liaise closely with the Ltyentye Apurte school and other relevant program partners to ensure their effective collaboration
