AAEE was founded in 1979 and is Australia's peak professional body for environmental educators. Our members work in government agencies, schools, tertiary institutions, businesses, and community organisations.
As an organisation, we:
- Advocate for environmental education and action in its many forms.
- Build and strengthen collective networks for cross-sector environmental educators.
- Support and contribute to skills development among educators across Australia and internationally.
Key responsibilities of the Marketing Officer position include:
- Coordinate high quality internal and external communications including email communications, newsletters, and social media
- Publish and promote events
- Grow the profile of AAEE in Australia
- Work in collaboration with the AAEE Communications Working Group
- Contribute to the development and implementation of a Marketing and Communications Strategy
- Contribute to the implementation of the Strategic Plan
- Maintain up-to-date and engaging content on websites
- Monitor and evaluate communications activities
- Collaborate and work effectively with AAEE staff, Executive Committee, Chapters, members, and the broader environmental education community
Additional responsibilities may include:
- Creation of a Marketing and Communications Strategy
- Assist AAEE Chapters with marketing and communications
- Collaboration with other Working Groups (e.g. Advocacy, Events)
- Strengthening AAEE’s appeal to younger people and diverse populations and increasing membership in those areas.
Essential Selection Criteria include:
- Experience delivering a coordinated communication strategy through multiple channels (e.g. website, EDM’s, social media)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with proven ability to write engaging and effective messages
- Proven ability to liaise and collaborate effectively, professionally, and respectfully with diverse stakeholder groups
- Ability to work with minimal supervision, using sound judgement and problem-solving skills to juggle competing priorities
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality
- Demonstrated experience using the MS Office suite, Google Workspace, WordPress, Humanitix, direct email marketing tools (Mailchimp or other), CRM software packages, audio and video editing software, social media platforms including scheduling software, and photo editing tools.
- Creative thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Be naturally organised and have great time management and excellent attention to detail
Highly Desirable Criteria include:
- Experience with the not-for-profit sector
- Experience in the environmental education sector
- Multimedia or equivalent qualifications
- Qualifications, or significant experience in Marketing and Communications, Education, Public Relations, and/or Project Management.
- Administration, reporting and record keeping skills.

Terms and Conditions:
- Responsible to: AAEE President & Executive Committee
- Location: This is a work from home position
- Status: Contractor
- Hours/Period of Employment: minimum 5h/week for 12 months
- Remuneration: hourly rate to be negotiated based on skills and experience + superannuation
