About Us

Karlka Nyiyaparli Aboriginal Corporation RNTBC (KNAC) is the Native Title representative group for the Nyiyaparli People, with approximately 400 current members. The Nyiyaparli People are the Traditional Owners of approximately 36,684 square kilometres of land and waters in the east Pilbara region.

This area includes the Aboriginal communities of Jigalong and Parnpajinya, several pastoral leases, and significant mining operations. Locations within the Determination Area are places of particular significance to the Nyiyaparli people, including ceremonial sites, songlines, permanent pools, and natural resources.

Location

This role is located at KNAC’s South Hedland office in the Pilbara region of Western Australia.

Position Purpose

Reporting to the General Manager, Community & Corporate Services, the Financial Wellbeing Coordinator is responsible for delivering financial literacy and education services that aim to alleviate financial hardship among members. The role involves managing the Home Ready Program, offering support and resources to help members make informed financial decisions, and advocating on their behalf with creditors. This role does not provide specific financial or tax advice but focuses on education to build financial resilience.

Key Responsibilities

The key responsibilities of this role include:

  • Design and implement financial literacy and education tools to support informed decision-making.
  • Manage the delivery of the Home Ready Program to KNAC members and stakeholders.
  • Provide personalised financial education sessions and access to generic resources.
  • Support members in advocating their concerns with creditors and navigating financial disputes.
  • Develop practical budgets and financial plans tailored to members' needs.
  • Facilitate group sessions to promote financial literacy and well-being.
  • Collaborate with other service providers to deliver comprehensive support to members.
  • Ensure all financial literacy activities comply with relevant legal and regulatory standards.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential qualifications and experience include:

  • Certificate III in Community Services (Financial Counselling) or equivalent financial qualification
  • Demonstrated experience in a financial literacy and education role or similar field
  • Experience working with Nyiyaparli/other Aboriginal people
  • High level of computer literacy, including competency in Excel spreadsheets
  • Demonstrated understanding of issues facing low income, disadvantaged people in the Pilbara
  • Demonstrated advocacy and negotiation skills, with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated strong attention to detail and a systems-oriented approach.
  • Superior interpersonal skills including ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with clients, colleagues and stakeholders and exercise tact and sound judgement.
  • Ability to work autonomously when required
  • Current Western Australia C-class Drivers Licence

  • $100,000 - $115,000 base salary depending on skills and experience, plus superannuation; and
  • $3,000 professional development allowance; and
  • salary sacrifice (which includes remote housing allowance);
