Advance to Zero Local Community Coordinator - Bunbury

Ending homelessness is possible, but it is a shared responsibility and requires a collaborative effort across all levels of government and society to ensure we have adequate housing, appropriate health services and support services available to those who need it the most.

We are seeking a Local Community Coordinator to work closely with the WA Advance to Zero Team and local community partners in an effort to advance to zero homelessness in the Bunbury community. Ending homelessness requires a whole of society approach and one of the key responsibilities of this position will include identifying, maintaining, and managing relationships with government, organisations, services, and individuals.

Demonstrating professionalism, proactivity and accountability, the Local Community Coordinator will provide direction to the Bunbury Advance to Zero community, supporting them to make decisions and problem solve.

This role will be closely supported by the WA Alliance to End Homelessness, who will provide coaching and training to support the Local Community Coordinator to succeed.

This position is 0.8FTE with flexibility regarding days and hours. The contract ends in December 2025 with the possibility of extension. 

Key Role Responsibilities

  • Leading the Rough Sleepers Coordination Group by assisting in coordinating services, with the aim of linking people experiencing rough sleeping with support and/or housing solutions.
  • Chairing the Improvement Team, guiding their initiatives to drive solution-focused systemic changes and contribute to the WAAEH Accountability Framework. Using a data-driven approach to directly coach the community to develop a place-based action plan, reach and celebrate identified milestones, whilst also striving to achieve functional-zero homelessness.
  • Contributing to the broader national AtoZ movement to end homelessness through active dialogue and knowledge sharing, ensuring their community remains connected to best practices and innovative solutions.

Essential requirements

  • Tertiary qualification in a Community Development, Community Services or similar
  • Demonstrated understanding of the challenges and opportunities in the Bunbury community
  • Demonstrated experience in stakeholder engagement and building effective and collaborative stakeholder relations.
  • Demonstrated communication skills, and a high degree of proactivity, autonomy, professionalism, and accountability
  • Demonstrated experience in writing submissions, prepare briefs on case trends, and case studies.
  • Experience working in homelessness or community services.

The WA Alliance to End Homelessness has developed a 10-year strategy to end homelessness through a whole of community-based response. The Strategy outlines five core areas and nine targets to prevent, respond to and end homelessness in WA. The WAAEH is part of the Australian Alliance to End Homelessness and an international network of organisations committed to ending homelessness. The strength of the Alliance is its collective impact approach with aligned strategies and actions shaped by large multi sector collaboration and active involvement by Alliance partners. The structure and approach of the Alliance builds on the success of sector coalitions that came together and partnered with a focus on specific homelessness issues as outlined in the Strategy.
