Purpose of the Disability Support Worker role

As a Casual Support Worker at Achieve Australia, your primary goal is to provide person-centered quality support services to people with a disability. You will support our clients in our Supported Independent Living house in Casino, Northern Rivers, to set and reach goals that are important to them and make decisions about how best to live the life they choose. This role requires to work some active nights and sleepovers, and may be converted to a permanent part time contract later on.

Role Responsibilities:

As a Casual Support Worker, you will work in our accommodation program in Casino and support clients to build their independence and relationships. Your duties will include:

  • Provide an enjoyable, respectful, and safe environment for all people we support.
  • Provide personal/physical care and support to clients including, but not limited to, grooming, toileting, meal preparation and assistance, home support, transport and medication administration.
  • Support the use of physical and communication aids and devices and other personal equipment where required.
  • Provide support that will enable clients to participate successfully in individual interests, hobbies, and relationships in the community.
  • Support clients to access recreational services, transport services, including public transport, taxis, Achieve Australia vehicles.
  • Advocate for and assist clients, their families, and significant people in their lives to access and engage with community.
  • Complete client documentation including writing case notes, updating our client management system, communication booklets, medical documentation, etc.

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Relevant qualifications (minimum Cert IV in Disability or Individual Support).
  • Strong interpersonal, role modelling, and customer service skills.
  • Problem-solving abilities with an ability to adapt to changing environments.
  • Understanding of and commitment to National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and Code of Conduct and Workplace Health and Safety.
  • Awareness of human rights and challenges facing individuals with disabilities.
  • Current NSW Driver's License – this is a must.
  • Experience in working with and supporting adults and/or children with complex disability.
