What’s the Trans Health Equity Programs Team?

Trans people of all genders and communities have particular health needs, and experience significant barriers to accessing the health education and care that they need. The need for a comprehensive and coordinated set of activities to address these health discrepancies is ongoing and urgent. ACON will continue to advance efforts to reduce health disparities and enhance strong health and gender euphoria for trans people of all genders and communities.

You will work in collaboration with a number of stakeholders to improve the health and wellbeing of trans adults of all genders and communities in NSW and across Australia, focussing on a number of areas that include, but are not limited to:

  • Contributing to and promoting clear, easy and understood pathways for accessing care, information and support.
  • Facilitating and enabling opportunities for enhanced trans community peer support, connection, gender euphoria and strength.
  • Promoting affordable and available gender-affirming health care.
  • Contributing to and promoting a trans-affirming, gender affirming and knowledgeable health sector.

Ok, so what’s the role?

The Manager, Trans Health Equity Programs drives ACON’s initiatives to enhance health and wellbeing for trans adults across NSW. In this pivotal role, you will lead a team in developing and implementing evidence-based programs that address health disparities and improve access to information, community and health.

You will leverage your expertise in public health and community engagement to foster peer support networks, build partnerships, and influence decision-makers towards inclusive and affirming policy and practice.

As a key representative, you will actively participate in advisory groups, conferences, and stakeholder meetings to ensure that the needs of trans communities are represented, prioritised and met.

Who are we looking for?:

Someone with:

  • Direct experience and connection with trans adults of all genders and trans communities in NSW / Australia.
  • Knowledge of disparities facing trans adults, and broader social determinants of health impacting trans populations.
  • Familiarity with public, population and community health, and peer-led approaches, frameworks and programs.
  • Knowledge of and connection with existing health care and social services available to trans adults at all levels.
  • Policy and advocacy experience, including the ability to quickly investigate, learn, summarise and explain complex topics and ideas to communicate these in a manner that strongly influences decision-makers to meaningfully act.
  • Excellent project management skills, including the ability to set priorities, meet deadlines and produce quality work.
  • Superior communication, presentation, interpersonal, diplomatic and strengths-based skills; effective liaison skills.
  • Experience with public speaking and building community capacity.
  • Demonstrated experience supervising and leading people, as well as the ability to work as a team member and collaborate with others

We provide a flexible and supportive work environment. You’ll be joining a tight knit leadership team within the Community Health Division. The Division provides LGBTQ+ health, equity and harm reduction health promotion programs, as well as specialist client services programs, including peer workers, counsellors and care coordinators.

What's the remuneration and working details?:

  • Salary: $113,500 to $120,000 (Gross per-annum, PLUS Superannuation and Leave Loading) – commensurate with skills, qualifications, and experience.
  • Location: ACON’s Gadigal / Sydney Office, with flexible working options a possibility (away from the office).
  • Hours: Permanent, Full-Time (76 hours per fortnight) on a 2-year fixed-term contract (with a possibility of ongoing).

We offer flexible working arrangements and a generous array of entitlements often above the National Employment Standards (NES) including:

  • Salary Packaging up to $35,000 gross up value (i.e., currently up to $15,900 Expenses + $2,650 Meals, tax free).
  • Generous pro-rata leave entitlements – including up to an extra week of paid leave for full time employees to be taken during our Christmas and New Year’s shutdown period.
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP) – access to a comprehensive counselling service free to employees.
