About the role

The role of the Residential Disability Skills Coach is to provide 1:1 targeted support and supervision of residents within ACSO's forensic residential facilities by assisting the development of daily living skills towards identified goals, encompassing evidence-based practice such as positive behaviour support. The support provided involves assisting adults with a disability to develop life skills, implement treatment strategies and facilitate meaningful engagement in activities and opportunities to improve quality of life. This role is predominantly based in the residential service, with the focus on resident's skills development within a home.

Day to day activities focus on building capacity towards each resident's individual NDIS SIL Goals. In this role you will also be required to maintain case notes and undertake associated administration tasks, including related NDIS documentation and progress reports that align with the resident's SIL goals, and foster positive relationships with people involved in the resident's support network.

While ACSO Specialist Forensic Disability Accommodation (SFDA) facilities typically operate 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, the role of the Residential Disability Skills Coach, will generally be rostered to work during the hours of 7am to 10pm including weekends and public holidays. There may be exceptional circumstances that require the Residential Disability Skills Coach to work outside these hours.

What we're looking for

  • Cert IV level qualification in disability or related field, or experience working within the disability sector in a similar role
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Experience contributing to support plans and goal attainment strategies
  • Strong negotiation, conflict resolution, communication and mediation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to advocate on behalf of the ACSO resident group
  • Ability to build positive relationships and communicate with people of diverse backgrounds and abilities, including people with an offending history and complex support needs.
  • Knowledge and competency in casework practices in disability service delivery, including compliance with relevant industry codes of conduct
  • Demonstrated capacity to work flexibly, possessing the ability to manage competing demands, and able to effectively set and maintain boundaries and limits where required
  • Ability to act appropriately in a crisis and seek support from line management in line with organisational policies and procedures
  • Competency in PC-based office applications (i.e., Microsoft Office) and internet
